Apparently? Not quite unanimous? I have rarely seen a discussion here so unified in support of a single view, and that is that painting those arches was a dumb idea. DNT, if you want suggestions about how to improve our city, ASK THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE HERE (not our summer visitors who live in the dorms at UMD).
Any thought of painting/murals should be immediately rejected simply based on that fiasco on the hillside.
There’s real news DNT. Let’s talk about that. This was never an issue.

I am not a NIMBY and am usually in favor of creative or new projects for the community, but in this case, the arches are already artistic, why do some people feel the need to color in random space just because they can? It is good we are having this discussion and realizing it won’t work now, so that this doesn’t end up looking like the Hillside graffiti that no one stood up against before it was approved.

When taking US-53 to or from Miller Mall, I have to pay attention to make sure I’m in the correct lane and don’t follow Piedmont where it separates from US-53. I pay particular attention coming downhill to merge into I-35 North, rather than entering I-35 South or the lane to I-535 North. I admire the arches as I pass them, but I’d hate the unsafe distraction of dozens of murals competing for my attention as I pass them at the speed limit.
