It’s been a tough five years for LaMoure, N.D., resident Connie Willey.
She’s served her community as an emergency medical technician for 20 years, but due to changing times, insufficient funds and not enough hours in the day, the number of emergency volunteers have shrunk in LaMoure, leaving Willey and two others to cover most of the 60 12-hour ambulance shifts each month for the last five years or so. Willey is president of the Community Volunteer EMS Service of LaMoure.

I think it is a shame how someone can say it’s been a tough 5 years when this is exactly what the city of LaMoure and the county wanted. There were many things discussed and the choice that was chosen was to have the city of LaMoure run the ambulane and Connie and the group of volunteers she had run the service. They did not need to pay anyone, they had a group of more than 30 volunteers. There were many people that tried to reason with the county and the city of LaMoure but it fell on deaf ears and the cheapest way out was taken because they could do it they have alot of people. They now think they want to make an ambulance district and charge the tax payers 10 mils, in my opinion if you are gonna do that you better be offering a pretty good service and have the highest level of care possible(paramedic) to give the people for there tax dollars. I do not understand why there is such a problem in LaMoure. Edgeley and Kulm which are in the county when asked don’t have the big issues LaMoure does. It’s a never ending thing it seems in LaMoure and it is very sad because it is a nice town. I admire Ringdahl Ambulance and the quality of service, care and staff they have. They tried to come into LaMoure and run the ambulance service but Connie and the group of volunteers along with the city and county did not want that. Now suddenly we are all supposed to feel sorry for them because they can’t get help. Hmmm….There are still people that live in that town that are trained and trained well, at least 1 paramedic and a couple EMT’s but the city, county, Connie and group of volunteers don’t want their help. Crazy things like power trips is what happened here.
