If it saves me money and reduces overall power consumption on the grid, I have no problem with it.
I don’t believe participation is mandatory. If that’s the case, when Big Brother comes knocking at your door, pat. e., just tell them to buzz off!

When this was first mentioned there was nothing about consumers saving money. If I remember correctly those who opted to not get the units would be charged a higher rate. How is that a savings? If you get the unit you will continue to pay what you have always paid. You will not see a noticable decrease in your bill and they have no way of demonstrating to you what you would have saved have you had the unit last year.
Also, the shut down of your AC was advertised orignially as minimual, a few minutes each hour, not 15 minutes (1/4) hour. Long enough for your house to heat up on those really hot and humid days like we have been having.
If you look at how other companies impliment this technology you will see where they have a positive insentive and are able to demostrate what your saving would be.
