Letter: Hamilton not playing straight with budget details
July 29, 2011 at 4:38 pm in Worthington Daily Globe
I was shocked to read Rod Hamilton’s letter in your paper, especially the part where he says that $3 billion was cut from the state budget. Continue Reading

Hey Cliff, where’s your “shock” that your liberal govenor wanted to spend even more? You want Hamilton to take a pay cut, let’s start with your paycheck or pension first and I’d bet he’d do the same. Little different when it’s YOUR money huh?
Hot debate. What do you think?

In his most recent letters, Hamilton has done nothing but spew the Republican party talking points to try to justify or spin what he SHOULD know is a bogus budget, built on more borrowing from schools, etc., as a way to make it look like we have a balanced budget. Appearing to balance the budget on the backs of the schools is fraudulent at best.
When challenged for his actions, Hamilton immediately goes on the defensive.
Once again, pat e., you disrespect another writer’s right to his opinion by personally attacking him. Are you and Hamilton related?
Stop defending these do-nothing politicians. Absolutely nothing beneficial was accomplished from the state government shutdown.

eastender…once again I disrespect another writers right to an opinion? Where in my post or any other post do I “personally attack” someone? If anyone is being disrespectful, read your own post.

For the record, Gov. Dayton did not take a paycheck during the shutdown. Both Hamilton and Magnus did, however, collect their salaries. More than 22,000 other Minnesotans were UNABLE TO.
You’ll probably say, “Dayton can afford not to (collect a paycheck).” Well, Hamilton and Magnus probably could have, as well. Their bios list them as farmers, so they have more than one income source. That can’t be said for the 22,000 laid off workers.
By the way, is it a coincidence that Hamilton introduced the legislation against secretly videotaping animal operations given that he’s deeply invested in the “pork producing” business? When challenged, in a letter to the editor, he defensively attacked the writer (his consituent) in a rambling pointless manner. He’s only looking out for his own self interest. As another writer said today, if they have nothing to hide, they have nothing to fear.
I don’t “attack”, pat. e. I just point out hypocrisy and double standard when I see it. Stop defending boorish behavior. And these political hacks.

Many good points here. This shows me our political system is broken. Broken bad, and common sense has gone the way of the dodo bird. Extinct. There is no way anyone should be allowed to video tape a business secretly. If you go at it long enough, and with some cheap editing software, you could blame anything on anyone. A common video camera, or a unattended web cam with a parabolic mike could incriminate even the best of us over time. I have nothing to hide, but why would I want a reason to hide in the first place? Personal responsibility and respect are lost in our “modern” society. Dont video tape my business or me, or I will video tape your business and you!!! Sounds like a bunch of little kids arguing in the playground to me. We can apply this same thinking to the whole political debate. Voting is nothing but a sham, the only choice is the lesser of two evils. Time to abolish the political parties, and vote for a candidate on their own political merits. Only watch out, someone is secretly video taping you, and after a little editing, or if you had one bad day, then you will be done!!!
