Since Amy Winehouse was discovered dead this past weekend, people have been asking me if the singer’s music is “classic” or “great” or even “good.”
Yes, yes and yes. Continue Reading

I know he is not as mainstream as some artists on your list or kanye west, but I would venture to guess that Eminem will be considered greats for centuries to come. Maybe not all his songs, but the ones that really tell a story and hit a person deep down. Others may disagree with me because of some of his topics or explicit language but the way he rhymes certain words or phrases to go along with his stories I just think he will be around for a long, long time.

Absolutely, and you can’t beat the crack musicianship of his band.

Even after her passing, I still don’t think her music was that good.

Sorry but winehouse was not classic, or anything. She was a drughead and nothing more. Kinda like how cobain was nothing special either and yet suddenly he dies and he is immortalized. There are hundreds of musicians out there much more gifted t6hat are overlooked simply because they do not fit the music spectrum at that time. And if anyone thinks the music spectrum does not decide who is popular, then tell me, why is Kesha popular?

Sorry, Nirvana was one of the biggest bands in the world before Kurt died. In fact Nirvana was on the downward slope because of a lack of touring and new material in 1994. They have stayed relevant because they brought a new sound to pop music that showed you didn’t have to have great chops or be technically proficient… all you had to do was play from your heart and have passion.

Amy Winehouse stood out because she was unique and had the talent to channel some of the classics before her in her own way. People aren’t USED to anything other than what they’re fed, so the hate starts… 99% of today’s music is disposable. One group or bimbo churned out by a major label sounds just like the next autotuned production.

Her being an utter mess stood out more than her music did. She will
soon be forgotten.

Agreed. She will be nothing but a byline in the annals of the cliche’d “27 Club”… a talented singer/songwriter who lived a stupid, foolish life and now she’s dead at 27 just like she wanted to be.

Give me one example of originality about A.W.? She did nothing that hadn’t been done before. It’s just that this generation is so musically inept when it comes to what they listen to that they don’t know any better. Remember this. The ones that think she was so great are teenagers!! They don’t know their head from their !@#$. Please quit referring to these entertainers as artists. An Artist is one that comes up with the new idea, the idea that is completly original and completly creative. Otherwise it’s just craft. That goes for all those who consider themselves “artists” who are really only craftsmen.

10th grade phase for Jim Morrison? Are you kidding!!!!? I still pull out my Doors CD’s at least once a month. I got The Soft Parade, (Wasp)Texas Radio, and Moonlight Drive on my I-pod friend. And I am old balls at 40. Also how dare you say Elvis won’t be around? I remember watching my mama cry as The King’s funeral was televised back in 1977. Have you ever been to Graceland Morast? I have, 3 times! The tours are always crowded. You totally forgot Pink Floyd. No shout out to Van Halen? Really? I was the coolest kid in my 8th grade class when I got to see them at Reunion Arena in Dallas, Tx back in 1984. I even had the T-Shirt to prove it. They sold out 3 shows even though The Jackson 5 were playing at Texas Stadium down the road on 2 overlapping nights. Of course I don’t listen to sissy music. I would never have gone to see Michael Jackson; even if you gave me free tickets.
