Sheila Harsdorf and Shelly Moore debate for Senate seat

The first round of public debate featuring incumbent Sen. Sheila Harsdorf, a Republican, and her democratic challenger Shelly Moore occurred Monday night at the Public Access Cable Studio in Hudson. Continue Reading

Who is Michael Foley and why was he chosen to be the moderator? Why would you not tell your readers that they could watch video of this debate so they might become educated about what is going on in our Senate District? http://hudson-wi.patch.com/articles/hudson-patch-debate-between-shelly-moore-and-sheila-harsdorf-will-be-streamed-live#video-7152405 While I am a VERY Conservative voter, I do watch and read many different types of media so that I am a well informed voter.

Micheal Foley is the editor of Patch. Patch is an on-line news service, they sponsored the debate. They announced the debate well in advance. Perhaps you are not as informed as you like to believe.

The information was left out of the article. I was looking for this journalism piece to answer the basic who, what, where, when, why and how that I learned in school. Thanks for your comment.

Celeste, interesting that you did fact check every statement that Moore stated. Must be due to one of two reasons. 1) You don’t care if what Moore said is true or not, or 2) She didn’t state any facts throughout the debate.
Your words:
“Comments by candidates should be fact-checked, and it does raise serious questions when candidate’s fliers are false and misleading.”
Maybe you meant to say:
“Comments by CERTAIN candidates should be fact-checked, and it does raise serious questions when candidate’s fliers are false and misleading.”

All candidates responses should be fact checked, and I hold both candidates to the same standards for accuracy and honesty in their statements.

Gee, I wish I was a lawyer and hired to be the PR person for the Moore campaign. You write, “All candidates responses should be fact checked,”, but yet don’t bother fact checking your girl even though you have time to post all the above.
Politifact gave candidate Moore a “pants on fire” rating for her incredibly dishonest claim about eliminating Medicare.
http://www.politifact.com/search/?q=shelly+moore
Make sure you read the entire Politifact article, the details behind the rating are usually more revealing than just the rating.
So when a teacher acknowledges in her school email she probably shouldn’t be using the school account, but doesn’t care because of her feelings….even though the school district hasn’t taken disciplinary action….that’s honorable behavior.

Ms Koeberl,
Why not just say you support Ms Moore and are a Democrat? There’s nothing wrong with it, and your postings point that way anyway. Also, 5 minutes with google does turn up items that suggest “I’m just a citizen in this community who expects those who are elected to represent my district ” is a bit misleading. Just sayin’…. and I respect your feelings even though I don’t agree with them.
Ms Moore has NO public voting record, so as a fairly reasonable person I have to look at the public information that is available, including Politifact rankings, YouTube videos of speeches, etc. And since she and two other candidates have hired a couple of Washington, DC PR firms to “manage” their message I believe the earlier information is a better reflection of who she is.
Harsdorf has a record, and it is being twisted every which way because a bunch of teachers were told by high-paid union bosses to protest the loss of mandatory union dues deductions.
Harsdorf HAS BEEN representing the people of this district; your views differ with hers resulting in your feeling you aren’t being personally represented. If Moore is elected, I’ll feel the same way. Even worse, what does she plan on doing to change things? It seems this whole recall crap is about stopping Walker and the Rs from turning this state from deficit to surplus, from unemployed to employed. You may not like the HOW, but look at the states that have turned around.
I’m not going to back someone who says, “We are at war” during a protest speech, and the only people she can be at war WITH are her fellow citizens, the people paying her salary. She’s a drama teacher, which part is she playing today?

Shelly’s drama skill were in rare form at the debate. She came across as stiff, overscripted and over-rehearsed. To see her reading her answers from her notes was a bit surprising for someone who says that she understands the issues so well. She came across as phony from beginning to end….all that was missing was a teleprompter. Perhaps she could get taxpayers to fund one for the next such debate.

Shelly could have said that Jesus rose from the dead that night but her eye rolling and head shaking and hands being thrown up in the air made me think she is juts full of herself and hot air. She used her drama teacher capabilities to the max. Her definition for a family sustainable job is quite insulting. Her view on job creation is through infrastructure. Infrastructure (like a high speed rail form Minneapolis to Chicago) that down the will cost the tax payers more money than imagined to “sustain”. It sure won’t be Minnesota or Illinois flipping the bill for that concept.
And if school districts would take advantage of this situation and start to work within their means and shift around some heavy weights they will see savings. Since you all like to post articles. Here is one for you:

Um, she was reading, sort of like Obama reading from a teleprompter. Apparently many on the left get all excited about the impressive skill of reading aloud. I find that fascinating from people who claim to be intellectually superior to conservatives. Shelly is not only qualified to be a drama teacher, I am convinced that she would also be an excellent children’s librarian. She seems to like to talk down to people.

Alec…..let’s start by saying Shelly rolled her eyes, threw her arms up in the air and slammed her hands on the table more times than I bothered to count. I think it is funny that you had the time to analyze this. So is your specialty non verbal communication? Next time I suggest attending a debate so you can see how your “genuine and confident” Shelly Moore behaved when Sheila was speaking. I can tell you, she was rude, impolite, disrespectful, and down right childish. Much like the children she taught I suppose. My children have more respect for people when they are talking than she did. Shelly avoided every talking point when at all possible and was even more insulting to the blue collar workers of this State apparently only college educated people are capable of having “family sustaining jobs”. Alec I suggest you actually make an attempt to listen to the debates instead of making tally marks in regard to Sheila’s communications. I mean if she only had her answers typed out nice and pretty like Shelly Moore’s staff had for her then maybe she would have flowed a little better instead. Yes, it is a bad thing that Sheila actually thought of the answers on her own thus having to actually think about things. It was even moore classic when Shelly Moore’s campaign manager handed her another sheet of well written out answers during the debate. Good luck to Shelly in Thursday when she won’t know the questions ahead of time. Maybe I will play that old college game that we use to play and take a shot every time sh evades the question or says she is not a politician and does not have an answer. She is just a simple school teacher from a family with a Military background.

Watching one debate(July 25th) is all I can take. My vote was and will be again for Sheila Harsdorf. Moore keeps repeating the same scripted(union drafted) talking points that clearly show she’s in over her head. Her dramatic delivery was way over the top and seemed like a Saturday Night Live skit. Sheila was on top of all the issues and clearly knew what she was talking about because she has the experience and dedication to hold the senate seat. I can’t wait until all this BS is over. Total waste of taxpayer money! Doing the job the majority voted you in to do, is not a valid reason to bring a recall election. Good grief!

When a liar (82 year-old, female living in MPS -info on your profile -who writes remarkably similar to the apparently extinct danimal ) points the finger at someone, my first response is….yawn.
Politifact concluded this rating with: “This item isn’t on whether the jobs news was good — clearly it was — but on how it was presented.”
I agree it was presented badly, but jobs were created in WI thanks to Walker and all the Republicans who have made this a more business friendly state.
Even Politifact doesn’t seem to understand why jobs can be added, and unemployment still goes up. What do you think is the reason alec/danimal?

Dude; What’s happening to this country is disgusting! And so are these recalls. The whiner’s cry until they get what they want. 50% on the gov teat! The majority means nothing anymore. Official elections mean nothing. The white house is a joke! The whole political scene has turned into entertainment folly. The debt ceiling drama. All the lies and scare tactics. I’m ashamed of them all, acting like children. Grow up and be leaders! That’s what we need. Those who can make the tough decisions to turn this sinking ship around. It’ll never turn around when all they are worried about is re-election and political career protection. How clearer can it be?

Who’s Morgan Freeman and why should I care?
Oh wait, that story was on TMZ last night when I finally got in. TMZ never interviewed the person who read the script so no one knows if the person was impersonating or if, more likely, that is that person’s real voice.
TMZ did have a funny Moore satire along with the story though, and probably didn’t realize how truthful they were.
Who IS Morgan freeman?

Why should anyone care that a guy sounds like Morgan Freeman? It’s alot more important for the candidate to sound like they belong in the State Senate. Ms Moore clearly is a one-issue candidate, and a very angry one at that.
