I would think it’s quite difficult to make a choice to get married if it means you have take on 4 kids, all from different fathers, and be financially responsible for everyone. Not many people with a job that could provide for that.

Well, this is actually progress in terms of DNT reporting. Instead of just percentages we are getting numbers too. Imagine the headlines “SAME SEX COUPLES INCREASE 70%” in Duluth!! In fact the DNT has had stories like that, where they just rely on the percentages. Here they didn’t do that, because the raw numbers 131 versus 223 are really not significant at all. These numbers are small enough to simply be regarded as noise, and so any percentages derived are meaningless. And we can see that, thanks to the numbers being printed in addition to the percentages.
Reasonable work DNT. Keep doing this. If you ever have a headline or a story based on percentages of anything, give the numbers too. We’ll figure things out fine.

Um, no offense, but why would the numbers go up? For married couples anyway…..Duluth has become the epicenter of a bad job market, bad weather, bad housing, and welfare. I would love to move back to the Duluth I grew up in with my family, but recent visits have shown me why that will never happen (at least in the near future)….Central Hillside used to be a decent neighborhood with working families. Now it looks like North Minneapolis.

No please, tell us more about how horrible the city has become, now that you need to see the occasional black person. Nobody’s silencing you, speak your mind!

Well maybe more people are breaking free from the shackles of religion and discovering that you don’t have to be married to sleep with someone or have kids – and as a side note a lot people on SSI wont get married cause they combine the checks and that jacks up a few hundred a month from what they were getting .

I didn’t see Michelle Bachmann mentioned at all in this article so not sure why commenters are talking about her. Makes about as much sense as me trying to connect Barack Obama to the article. Duluth seems to be more liberal than the rest of Minnesota much like the Twin Cities are.

You could connect Obama to article if was a republican senator from Minnesota who advocates cutting Medicare while receiving Medicare payments to clinic he runs which offers to heal Gay people of their Homosexuality and yet Minnesota shows a 38% increase in same sex couples in state. Try to keep up.
