Moore wins with 54% of votes
July 13, 2011 at 2:59 am in River Falls Journal
When the unofficial results were totaled Tuesday night, recall candidate Shelly Moore won Wisconsin’s 10th Senate District primary 3,000 votes ahead of the opponent who didn’t campaign.

Fraud? You guys said there was absolutely NO FRAUD before voter ID passed, how could there be any now?? If you mean Isaac Weix on the ballot, I would love to know how many democrats would have voted had the tables been turned. Oh, that’s right, they are so prinicipled that they would have stayed home.

Yeah there wasn’t fraud, I agree John Smith. However a caller going out telling people to not vote until their ballots arrive in the mail isn’t necessarily ethical. Then again anyone who falls for such a stupid lie probably shouldn’t vote anyways.

You’re misrepresenting the robocall regarding the absentee ballots. From a discussion at:
http://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=6329595&postID=3109956717638570190
David said…
Journal Sentinel writes:
Barbara Lyons, the executive director of Wisconsin Right to Life, said Tuesday that automated calls that went out on Monday to residents in nine recall districts were not voter suppression calls.
At least one politically minded blog charged that the calls were intended to convince people not to vote today in primaries around the state.
But Lyons said the intent of the calls was to make people aware of the upcoming recall elections on Aug. 9 and 16.
Here is the script of the call, as provided by Wisconsin Right to Life:
“Hello, this is Barbara Lyons from Wisconsin Right to Life. I’m calling today to let you know that you will be receiving an absentee ballot application for the upcoming recall elections in the mail in the next few days. These recall elections are very important and voting absentee will ensure that your vote is counted and that we can maintain a pro-family, pro-life state senate. We hope that we can count on you to complete that application and send it back to us within 7 days.
“Thank you for your support. Wisconsin Right to Life can be reached by calling (877) 855-5007.”
Gotta say it sounds like voter suppression to me, though she may be supressing her own voters if she’s telling the truth. How can you robocall people who are going to get absentee ballots? How do they have any idea who has requested an absentee ballot?
Sounds fishy.

Moore Claims to be Against Special interests and wont take money from them. Is not the Unions and in partculiar the Teachers Union for whom she works a Special Interest.

I demand a recount!
So in 2008, Harsdorf won 55,500 to 42,800.
Approximately 50% of the people who voted for loser Page signed the recall petition. (23,000). So only half of the losing voters can force a recall… that is a pretty low threshold.
Only 19,000 people bothered to vote for Moore yesterday.
Why weren’t there 42,800 people out voting for Moore if Sheila is doing such a terrible job? This was their big chance!! All those union thugs from across the country out pounding on doors throughout the 10th to turn out the vote and that is the best they could do?
I’m afriad it is time to pull out all the stops and get the ‘smokes for votes’ program revved up, or maybe the bingo games at the homes for mentally disabled where they give candy bars to the residents then help them vote. That worked well in ’04 for the dems-might be time to start that up again. Maybe they could get all the college kids back to their dorm rooms early by offering free beer for four weeks leading up to the start of the semester if they vote on August 9. Come on SEIU, AFL-CIO….put your thinking caps on!!! We know that money is no object for you guys.

Danimal, the wow is that she was only able to get enough votes to equal 85% of the signatures to force the recall. In this primary, she had everything to lose. If this is her cieling, she is in trouble in August. Also, why the large differance in votes versus signatures? Easy, those high school and college students who signed the petition handed to them by there friends, professors and teachers were not here to vote. They will also not be here to vote in early August. Good luck without that very reliable democrat voting block. danimal, people would be much more willing to converse with you on here if you were not quite a donkey’s behind. BTW, how did that “coffee party” movement go?

This doesn’t surprise me one bit! And to expand this discussion, I’d like to ask those who support Moore (and aren’t memebrs of AFT or WEAC) how the average citizen benefits from teachers and state employees being allowed to collective bargain and to be able to join unions.
As a long tinme union member myself (and a former union steward-who finally saw the light), I can tell you that the only people who truly benefit rom union membership are the unions themselves and those union members who deserve to be fired, but get union protection to keep their jobs.
In my experience, hard-working, dedicated employees with a strong work ethic don’t need unions and don’t benefit from being a member of one.

The Rs cut $ from the education budget, AND allowed local districts the mechanism to recover ALL the state aid and MORE (NOT MOORE!!!) by restricting CB.
What happens when districts are no longer forced by CB to buy health insurance through WEA Trust? They save $$$$, my district saved $500,000+ by utilizing the private marketplace. Funny how WEA Trust can suddenly match private companies so they can stay in business.
Then there is the $600,000 saving caused by the teachers volunteering to contribute to their pension plans. Yes, this is now part of law, because codifying makes it a bit more stable.
The budget is more in the hands of the local people. Now if the state and federal governments would take some of their mandates out of education, the kids might actually learn rather than learning for a test.

Interesting news article from 2004:
Administration pressures Congress to raise debt ceiling
November 04, 2004|Associated Press
WASHINGTON — The Bush administration said yesterday it will run out of maneuvering room to manage the government’s massive borrowing needs in two weeks, putting more pressure on Congress to raise the debt ceiling when it convenes for a special post-election session.
Hot debate. What do you think?

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/256199/obama-not-always-fan-upping-debt-ceiling-katrina-trinko
Obama: Not Always a Fan of Upping Debt Ceiling
Here are Obama’s thoughts on the debt limit in 2006, when he voted against increasing the ceiling:
The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

Actually danimal, when you ‘take money’ from government workers, you give it back to its original owner, the taxpayer from whom it was taken! Did it ever occur to you that wages and benefits got out of hand due to collective bargaining nonsense and this was the time to fix it? No, of course not. It should only be private sector employees who get their pay cut and benefits reduced. That should NEVER happen to a government employee. So what that unemployment hovers around 10%, with some estimates much higher than that. Just keep taking from the producers and giving it to the non-producers, now that is a recipe for success!!

For you and your ilk it’s all about taking something someone else has earned while you wasted time, because to you fairness is about outcome not opportunity. Demand does create some jobs but demand is driven by investment and spending both of which are done in greater proportion by businesses and the wealthy.

I’m just wondering why is it ok for the unions to recall a politician just because they’re not getting their why and they don’t agree with what that politician does? My husband doesn’t get the pleasure of recalling or firing his boss just because he has to pay more for insurance or if he doesn’t get a raise. Didn’t your parents teach you to earn your keep. I’m tired of everyone thinking that everything should just be given to them (stop the gimme state). They don’t like that they will have to pay more for their benefits and they say so much money is being taken away from the schools. If you read a little closer in Walkers budget plan you would realize that the little extra they have to pay for their benefits is going toward the schools. That will make up for the money they think is being taken away. Maybe people should find a legitimate reason for this recall election. Moore said that Weix was wasting tax payers money. What does she think she is doing with this whole recall? Saving money? My parents are county works near Green Bay and they DO NOT like being part of the union. They were not asked if it was ok if they joined the union. They were told they had to just because they worked for the county. They only work part time and have to pay full union dues, but they don’t get any of the benefits. They get money taken from your check for nothing. Just so union heads and full timers can reap the benefits. How is that fair?

Well I figured if I just say unions you would use some common sense and know I am talking about the unions and members as a whole. I haven’t heard your buddy Shelly say we are union members, she says “we are union”. I guess from now on I have to spell things out better like I’m talking to a 5 year old. I also said nothing about union MEMBERS not being tax payers. Everyone is a tax payer. I guess I have to repeat myself for a third time since you are so obsessed with telling me the difference between a union and union member. I said people should find a different reason for this recall instead of just because your not getting your way. Life is a bitch. You don’t always get your way, so stop acting like a 5 year old. I didn’t demand a recall when the previous governor screwed over this state. I just waited to vote in someone I knew would try and fix the problem. All that Walker is trying to do is fix the budget and cut useless spending. Just like they need to do in Washington. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t think like the politicians in Washington, you can’t save money by spending money. That just doesn’t make any sense.

Alice: wrong again. The only reason that the real Dems beat the fake Dems is because the Republicans didn’t really work to get out the vote in the primary.
Yes, I know that there were a few Republican e-mails calling out the vote BUT most of the silent majority didn’t even know about this option. Remember that the “silent majority” are the ones that voted for Sheila and wanted a balanced budget. Wiex, et. al. didn’t spend a nickel, but Moore spent BIG $$ from out-of-state supporters and look what that got her.
If I was a Moore backer, I would be very, very concerned about how close this primary vote was.

If everone will be better off does it matter that some improve even more than others. Your thinking is too focused on how the pie is cut vs how much actual pie everyone gets. I guess it goes back to my last observation about your thinking being based on your perception of needing to take something from others.

danimal,
as much as you want something to be true by repeating a lie, it doesn’t work:
http://www.nber.org/papers/w15438
A synopsis of the study:
“We examine the evidence on episodes of large stances in fiscal policy, both in cases of fiscal stimuli and in that of fiscal adjustments in OECD countries from 1970 to 2007. Fiscal stimuli based upon tax cuts are more likely to increase growth than those based upon spending increases. As for fiscal adjustments, those based upon spending cuts and no tax increases are more likely to reduce deficits and debt over GDP ratios than those based upon tax increases. In addition, adjustments on the spending side rather than on the tax side are less likely to create recessions. We confirm these results with simple regression analysis. ”

24,000 jobs lost.
Heard this on one of the TC morning news shows, can’t remember which station. But the Obama stimulus managed to spend $278,000 to create one job…

It would appear lower corporate tax rates have increased jobs in Virginia.
http://washingtonexaminer.com/local/transportation/fairfax-creates-more-jobs-has-lower-taxes-montgomery
“The report looked back 30 years and found that Montgomery County had more jobs than Fairfax until the mid-1980s. Since then, Fairfax has outpaced Montgomery in job growth and now has 200,000 more jobs.
Business leaders have consistently said the lower corporate tax rate in Virginia has been a major factor in relocation decisions. Maryland’s corporate tax rate is 8.25 percent, while Virginia’s is 6 percent.”

I am not bitter nor do I hate trees. I am quite satisfied with the turn in direction this state has taken the past few months and hope we continue down this path to prosperity.
No more time to play, I have employees to watch and a payroll to complete for Fri, so their children won’t starve.

I have worked as a tradesman in the private sector, and in a union. I am now a public employee, in a union. I voted for Walker and Harsdorf, and after everything that has happened I would do it again. I believe what they are trying to accomplish is right.
I recently voted with my union to take a 5.8% pay cut. Even after the pay cut, I am thankful to have a job that provides me with a retirement and healthcare that rivals what I had as a private sector employee.

It isn’t Salary that draws them, it is the early retirement age, and almost free Pension/healthcare. Also, if they just show up, they are considered to be performing at a satisfactory level.
Rookie wage scale is getting more common, isn’t it?
