July 5, 2011 at 7:00 pm in Worthington Daily Globe
I am one of your constituents in Worthington. I want you to know how angry I am that you did not work during the session with Governor Dayton to negotiate the biennial budget. Continue Reading

FYI, there have been many tax increases lately, in the disguise of the term: FEE. Not so long ago the state increased numerous fees, and added a surcharge to professional licenses. They also created several new catagories of new licenses. So lots more money for those of us who are doing business legally. The vast majority of those people are MIDDLE CLASS. Wake up minnesota and leave the safety of your sandboxes!!!!! I owe, I owe, its off to work I go. The solution is simple: Tax ALL politicians at 100% of net worth if they cant get this straightened out!!! Deficit erased and a surplus to boot. No harm done to Minnesota or the environment either. Problem solved, time to call a special session.

I give the writer a lot of credit. She has done her research, backed up her arguments with facts and figures, without emotion. She has taken the time to express her feelings in an intelligent, sincere, well-written manner. She challenges them on their priorities and urges them to “get back to work”, in so many words.
It’s unfair to attack her for what she “could have or should have” said. It’s unfair to attack her.. period.
It’s not a liberal or conservative issue. It’s the voice of a concerned citizen who went to the source to state her concerns. More concerned taxpayers should follow her lead and write to their legislators. Pat E – drop a note to Gov. Dayton while you’re at it.

good idea. Lots of us have dropped a note. That is why there is a stalemate. Our governor was born with a silver spoon in each hand. He doesn’t know what it is like to be middle class. Taxing millionaires wont hurt him. He lives off the loopholes and safe “old money” It is obvious tax and spend isn’t working. Time to try something else. How about personal responsibility and accepting your station in life and living within your income? With hard work a person can climb the social/economic ladder. Many examples of that out there. No government ever moved anyone up the ladder. Time to find something else, “TAX AND SPEND” is dead.

Don’t attack her for what she “could have or should have” said. She doesn’t deserve to be attacked… period.
She’s gone to the source to voice her concerns. Anyone who has something to say on this issue should do what she has done — write to their legislators. She challenged them on their priorities and urged them to “get back to work” in so many words.
Pat E – you should drop a line to Gov. Dayton while you’re at it.

If we eliminate the rich people, and redistribute their wealth to the “poor” We will all be rich!!!!! NOT! Poor people do not offer others jobs. Poor people do not build hotels, movie theatres, restaurants, shopping malls. Without “rich people” it would be a bleak wasteland that we live in. Tax and spend doesn’t work. You will always have different classes of people and there is nothing wrong with that. Minnesota can not solve the world’s problems so why dont we raise the residency requirements to get benefits? Go after the tax cheats and fraud. Cut spending on frivolous and porky projects, there are lots of those. Get down to common sense old fashioned values and spend money on roads, bridges, schools, and those things that a person cant do for themself. Time to think about the unfunded retirements and benefits for people that have earned them! Time for cuts in government programs and limiting special interest groups influence. Time for a new governor who represents the people, in that he is not trying to add to his voter pool by creating massive new numbers of poor people who will be foolish enough to vote democrat.

How about if the top 2% of the wealthiest Minnesotans just paid in taxes as much as the working class?
The secret politicians aren’t telling is that the ultra rich in Minnesota are taxed at a LOWER rate than the rest of us. Very Richest – 9.7% effective tax rate: Working Families – 12.1% effective tax rate.
If the richest 2% of Minnesotans paid their share it would generate enough revenue to end the shutdown today.

As this goes on, and each side makes its case, I am starting to see something. The way we do business as a state just cant continue. We are headed to a total meltdown of failure and destruction. I applaud the republicans for sticking to their agenda, unfortunately it is a misguided and wayward agenda. I applaud the democrats for sticking to their agenda, unfortunately tax and spend just gets us in deeper. The truth is: Government can’t solve all problems, and shouldn’t even try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stick to the things a person cant do themselves!!!!!!!!!!!! As a state the eternal increase can’t continue. It is a simple matter of mathematics, as the amount increases, and the percents force even higher increases, the whole mess becomes a quagmire of un-useable numbers. It just gets impossible because the problem compounds itself. The main problem is government is doing things for people that they should do for themselves. I am lower middle class, I dont dare go to the doctor unless I got a serious issue. My long time friend on assistance goes to the emergency room when ever he eats to much spicy food and has bad gas. Honest! I cant smoke, because it is to expensive and I cant afford the doctor bills that go along with smoking. I got to take a random drug test every so often to keep working. Can’t party it up. Maybe I should go on assistance myself. Then I can live in an apartment owned by millionaires and get my rent and bills paid for by the middle class saps that I have left behind. I will have to quit voting independently/mixed parties also. Got to vote for the party that votes me the most benefits! To much life style change for me. I will stay where I am. Oh no, did I mention lifestyle? Cant do that, even though it definitely affects how much money I “need” and so many things about my life in general. As a state we are living well beyond our ability to fund it and some day there will be a full accounting. I just wish both parties would see that and meet somewhere in the middle. And get to work tackling the bigger picture of greed and mis-management and special interest groups. But that wont earn anyone votes, so doubt it will happen. I am thinking about moving to North Dakota. Anyone want to come along?
