What Rep Westrom leaves out is that Gov. Dayton was willing to alter his tax proposal to only include those making over $1 million dollars and the republican tea party lawmakers wouldn’t compromise.
Also, what good would a 10 day lights on do, when members of the legislature refuse to budge? I am hoping that the members of Rep. Westrom’s district will remember come election time who couldn’t perform even the most basic of job duties, ie keep the government working for the citizens as a whole.
The fact remains that while many republicans were voted in as district representatives, Mark Dayton was the choice that the majority of Minnesotans made for Governor. This was because of his plan to increase state revenue by taxing those that would feel the burden the least.

This outrage is courtesy of an inept Minnesota legislature that thought it more important to promote their social agenda rather than get down to the financial business of the government! Shame, shame, shame on the Republicans AND Democrats for taking their eye off the ball! Little do any of them care about the pain that they are inflicting upon the people. God will judge these egotisitical, self-serving politicians accordingly!

Rep. Westrom, we are still not including amounts owed schools from T Paw but yet want to delay more payments to achieve what you want to call a balnced budget without showing revenue.

Torrey, It was the legislatures responsibility to A: Make changes to their budget bill that would recieve the support of 2/3 of their respective bodies or B: pass a bill the governor would sign…they had six weeks…they did nothing. People need to stop simplifying this failure by saying things along the lines of “both parties suck.” A good point was made that each legislator was only voted in by his or her district…Dayton was elected in a statewide election. He holds equal power under the way our checks and balances are set up. He initially wanted to tax the top 5% of earners. He has compromised, Torrey, it’s you and stubborn cronies in the GOP that won’t budge. Anyone with a brain who listens to the news has gathered that much, so knock it off with the talking points because everyone thinks you sound like a broken record. Unoriginal repeating cuckoo clocks is what you are! and just like a cuckoo clock…your time is winding down.

Torrey – sure glad you spent all of that energy working on anti-gay marriage instead of working on the budget! Get off of the attack rhetoric and spend energy figuring out how to C-O-M-P-R-O-M-I-S-E.

Rep. Westrom, I called your office and was able to talk with one of your assistants with the idea of letting you know that I wanted you to compromise with Gov. Dayton. I told her I do not consider anyone to be the “evil rich” but I used my nephew and niece as an example. My niece is 30 years old and is a doctor. Her brother who is 28 is a special needs person. If my tax dollars are to used to help anyone I want it to be the special needs person. Tax cuts to my niece, who is a very good person, are not necessary because she is able to care for herself. My nephew is not. Your aide asked me if our family had considered caring for him. Yes, my family cares for him but what about those who have no family able to care for him. It also got me to thinking about your family. When you had your accident was your family able to pay all medical bills and have you ever benefited from the American with Disabilities Act or have you had a family member at your side ever since your accident?

It is very sad when a legislator or his staff starts wailing away on a constituent. ruth1944 was obviously treated with no respect. It is clear to me that the person who feels that they should receive entitlements in this case is the legislator. Respect is earned – this legislator has a lot of work to do – I hope he starts earning soon!

I agree. Sounds like Westrom & co. are getting a little defensive. Guilt?

Another article indicates that Mr Westrom is a finalist for county attorney in Grant or Stevens County – I hope he gets the job! Then we will have a chance to go another direction.

I can’t believe how liberal this state has become. When did we change from a state, where people worked for what they wanted to a socialist nanny state with people only demanding the best welfare and entitlements money can get them.
The state doesn’t need to raise taxes it needs to CUT SPENDING.
Socialism only works until other people’s money runs out.

” Mark Dayton was the choice that the majority of Minnesotans made for Governor. ”
Check your facts. 43% of the electorate is not a majority. Mr. Dayton had the good fortune of a third-party candidate last year who foolishly handed the election to Dayton and now we are living with the consequences. Dayton has no more business being the governor of this state than he had representing us in Washington. He is a relic, a relic of the old ways of tax and spend liberalism of the past.
Everything in Westrom’s e-mail is accurate. Dayton is the intransigent one. This is the best legislature we’ve had in decades. It’s time to stop growing state government. This legislature is taking that job seriously. I, for one, hope they don’t give in.

Finally and end to the shutdown. Limbaugh had the nerve to say Dayton “caved.” Caved?! More like actually cares about the citizens of this state. Republican leaders would have let this thing go on and on…or at least until it was time to start campaigning again.
