WILLMAR Tom Larson has been named sports editor at the West Central Tribune of Willmar.
Larson’s selection was announced Friday by West Central Tribune editor Kelly Boldan.

First legendary Minnesota sports writer Bruce Strand is let go by this paper, now Scott Thoma is gone too as this pathetic rag continues it’s race to the bottom in a frantic effort to stay afloat by cutting payroll. You’re doing a heck of a job Kelly Boldan.

Tom Larson is an outstanding guy, he will do a great job.
I think the fact that the Tribune covers over 40 area high schools and does so in a very effective manner tells me the management of the paper is getting the job done.

Randy, if the Tribune coverage of 40 area high schools was done in an effective manner, why was the former Editor replaced? That just doesn’t make sense.

Hold on big guy, which editor are you talking about first of all? Are you going way back to when Bruce Strand left the Tribune? You really should try tying those two items together that you speak of, (1) the editor leaving and (2) the paper doing an effective job. Are you just making up a “chicken or the egg” scenario?
The fact of the matter is, there is very little money to be made working for a newspaper. A first-year teacher makes more than most journalists you will find in rural Minnesota.
Perhaps Scott Thoma found greener pastures? I have no idea, and it really doesn’t matter.
Harold, maybe you want to sign up for evening-only work which brings little pay while taking you away from your family?
Journalists do what they do because they love it, plain and simple as that.

LOL My only point was how could a paper who did a “wonderful job covering sports for over 40 high schools,”, fire the editor of the paper that did a WONDERFUL JOB COVERING SPORTS FOR OVER 40 HIGH SCHOOLS.
