Some Concerned Over Pembina Gorge ATV Trails
June 21, 2011 at 3:25 pm in WDAZ
Lack of enforcement of ATV use is the reason many landowners in the Pembina Gorge say they are against a proposed new state trail. On Tuesday, the North Dakota State Parks Department held a meeting in the gorge to talk with residents about their concerns. Continue Reading

Please do not judge all ATV riders by who has been there in the past. The responsible riders have been waiting for the trail system. You have not seen any economic impact because we have been going out of state and spending our money there due to no trails in North Dakota to enjoy. This is a family activity for us from my 5 year old to my 82 year old Grandmother. We have hundreds of miles of walking trails in ND and only 13 miles of ATV trails. I thank the North Dakota Parks and Rec for recognizing the need for such trails and working to provide them in the correct manor.

I agree please do not judge all riders based on the current or past situation in Eastern ND. We have never in my lifetime had an established ATV or Off-road trail system on the Eastern side of the state. I have no doubt that some farmer, rancher or property owners have had property or crops destroyed in the past as there has been no official trails to ride on. With a trail system some enforcement would be needed and violator would need to be held accountable for their actions. I have no doubt there would be some learning curve for the riders of these established trails but I do feel some structured trails would benefit the landowners and riders alike. I haves Snowmobiled the Pembina Gorge area for years and drove nearly 100 miles to do it. I love this are of ND and really want to see some trails so I can make family memories in my home state. I just finished planning an ATV trip in MN where there are over 90 off-road Vehicle Trails and state parks that welcome ATVs. I have no doubt that I will be spending over $1200 that could otherwise be going to my home state of ND.
