If money is the issue, then the city council should have no problem having their wages cut or eliminated entirely and work probono for the rest of their terms. Afterall, they said they have looked at every possible thing to make budget cuts, but I’ll bet they didn’t look at cutting their own budgets.

Wow…. The resource center I understood and knew where they were coming from. But the Police Department… Just, wow.
I do believe a few of those board members signed away any chance of being re-elected.

I’m not sure what to think about this. I see local government aid getting cut while mandates and demand for service increase or remain the same. I often hear people complain about agency and department overlap and how that is wasteful so we should look at combining services across government units where possible. With that said, eliminating law enforcement overlap is the one of the last places I would look. I know the city and county are looking at other options for sharing/combining services as well so I’ll give them credit there, but I think a major decision like this should have been studied longer and the discussion should have been more open from the start. At least we know that Sheriff Hawkinson will do a great job.
