Well said, Ruth. There are way more serious things to worry about where teenagers are concerned. TP’ing is a prank that has existed for decades. Our home was often “decorated” each time one of our children was high school age. Our reaction was always a smile and shake of the head–”kids will be kids.” Then you get a nut job in your community who gets away with ambushing kids. And your local paper makes him look like a hero. Huh?
Hot debate. What do you think?

While the new County Attorney plea bargains away serious charges against dangerous criminals, it seems the only case her office has pursued vigorously was to oppose the appeal of the Wagar kid. She spit in the face of all the toothless hicks who supported her and made that case the cause celebre for the frustrated vigilantes in the area. That was beyond mean, that was PURE EVIL.

Seriously? The fox urine case? Whether you think the kids were delinquents or that Mr. Wagar acted irrationally, I think we can all agree that the author of this commentary needs to let it go and move on with her life.

dman, it shows what can happen when an irresponsible newspaper like the West Central Tribune provides a forum that not only tolerates but actively encourages the most vile, hateful, vulgar and obscene threats and insults from ignorant people who know next to nothing about the story they are commenting on. The incompetent, incomplete reporting of Gretchen Schlosser and the desperate decision of publisher Steve Ammerman and editor Kelly Boldan to fan the flames of this minor event (just to increase the pageviews on this site as they frantically try to stay one step ahead of the bill collectors) resulted in a notorious case that people are still talking about.

I’m glad she took it with a grain of salt… and found amusement in the incident. Forks come out of the ground and TP can be taken down and whatever can’t be reached will fade with the next rain.
It is also important to realize that not everyone who’s yard is TP’d and forked will feel the same way about it… and that’s ok, too. It’s not for me to determine how my neighbor should feel about the mischief in their yard, just as it isn’t for my neighbor to decide how I should react. And I don’t know that tossing the Wagar story out there again was necessary.
But – since she did – I really do hope the Wagar’s had a TP and fork-free year, finally. He obviously was no longer able to take it with a grain of salt, and that’s ok, too.

Let me guess Scott, you supported the previous County Attorney?
