Cottage Grove moves to make a splash with aquatic upgrade at park

Cottage Grove’s aging city pool will go dry for good this fall, but those looking to splash around likely won’t have to leave town next summer.
The city is set to move forward on plans for a splash pad an aquatic playground, with spray nozzles and water guns to help keep cool on hot summer days and additional improvements at Highlands Park. Continue Reading

A $7,000 council member (martyr wannabe) isn’t necessarily the same as the entire community either. The presentation of the splash pad was well done and showed plenty of evidence that they were well used in other cities. Highlands Park is a large park and it will be nice to have another ammenity there. The park gets used often, especially the basketball and tennis courts and with it sitting right on the trail system, it should have a lot more traffic. I wish our junior council member would consider the community benefits in looking at projects and not just looking at dollars. CG needs to have pride in itself and have things that bring residents together. Just like a marriage, it’s the little things that count. This is a little thing that if it stays operational for 10 years with minimal work, it will pay for itself in pool savings. Not everyone can afford a membership at the Y and not everyone is able to shell out $6 to use a pool. Help make CG a destination.

We need a waterpark that will accommodate all ages! A splash pad will only cater to young children. I personally think it’s a mis-use of funds. Let’s put the money towards something that everyone in the community can enjoy!

I am concerned that it is awfully expensive for what we are getting – PLUS, I live in the Highlands neighborhood and there are not a lot of young kids around here – Has anyone looked at the demogaphics of the area? I think the splash pad would fit better in a younger neighborhood park – like Kingston? where kids and parents wouldn’t have to drive all the time to use it.
