Kicked out for doing good: Hastings man who volunteered on scene of north Minneapolis tornado was thrown out

For a few years, Mike Haege’s sister lived in north Minneapolis. He knows the neighborhood at least a little bit, and when a tornado tore through the area on Sunday, May 22, he took notice. Continue Reading

So much for MN Nice. LOL Nothing out of the land of loons surprises me anymore. What a shame his services were denied.

I once had to move some broken concrete pieces (nicely stacked.. waiting to be re-used as a rock garden) from outside my back fence to inside because of a city inspector. Yet the burned out garage rubble, directly across the alley from me, was allowed to sit there for over a year. Oh, and I once got a citation for a tree that wasn’t on my property, and when I called her to correct the mistake, I got all sorts of attitude that I should just take the citation to the correct house and stop bothering her. When I complained to her manager, I got the same attitude. In my opinion, that city department needs some house cleaning.

I think there is a lack of common sense with some of these government agencies. Just in the news tonite out in California a man was allowed to drown because the city passed a ruling the fire dept could not do any more water rescues it was up to the Coast Guard. Well their boat could not reach the shallow water and their chopper was out on an other rescue. Now granted the guy was committing suicide but still the rule by the city was foolish. Now they are rescinding the order. This news story about the tree removal is about as foolish.

People try to help out and the arrogant Minneapolis inspector comes along to be tough chick. What a bunch of idiots. If I was this guy, I would send that citation back telling the city to shove it up somewhere dark. Then again as stupid as they acted in the first go around, they would probably spend thousands in collection services if he did not pay it.

It sounds to me like the inspector was just doing his job, too. Is it possible that the licensing requirement applies to those taking money for their work AND those working as volunteers? We need more info, Star-Gazette.
