I remember when I was a kid, it was a big deal to see a fat (excuse me, I meant obese) person. In the 60′s and 70′s, kids would point and exclaim when they saw such a person. That was cruel and I don’t condone it. But the opposite phenomenon is happening today. Obesity is portrayed as more and more normal. Clothing industries have positively flocked to accommodate the obese customer. I’ve noticed that the prettier and (more modest) outfits seem to be in the “Women’s” section. These areas of the department stores are large and are crowding out the “Misses”department. It used to be that obese people had limited clothing choices, but not any more. So where is the incentive to lose weight? Why should it matter? These weight loss miracle shows are just more things for the couch potatoes to watch on TV while they eat their cheese puffs and tortilla chips.
