JHS students pledge not to text and drive

Mariah West drove to meet a boy and never made it.
The day before her high school graduation, she hopped in a car to meet him at his baseball game. Back and forth the two texted each other, the boy giving Mariah directions to the ball diamond.

A thumb ring to show their promise? What’s it gonna be like when someone finds a mangled teenager in a car with their own guts and blood all over, no teeth or recognizable face, glass stuck in their skin, a passenger with a crushed skull under the weight of the car, and a bloody limb laying just out of reach of one of the victims. I can only imagine the odor. The phone will read “i promised lol”. The ring will lie nearby.

I don’t understand how to text but my daughter sure knows how to do it! I get confused when I get a message! I’m still learning! What a great story!
