What about all those poor American Bison who are on the brink of extinction? Don’t the deserve better than to be portrayed as a bunch of mindless animals that only know how to stampede? What about their rights? Can we get the NCAA involved? What about PETA?
These animals are better than the petty thug criminals that represent them.

So they can interfere with making UND change the logo, but when it comes to what I assume was a meeting to figure out what to do next, they do nothing. The NCAA has made a change but a path to actually take…

This decision is just another example of the NCAA’s hypocrisy. First they are going to attend then meeting, then, with nothing changing, they’re not. And this comment board is just another example of lakes’ infatuation with and jealousy of UND.

Hate to tell you, but lakes hasn’t said anything, and most NDSU fans don’t give a rats a** about how this ends up. Grow up.

But he has. And you’re correct, most ndsu fans don’t care too much. But the jealous infatuated ones like lakes do. I realize that the vast majority of ndsu fans aren’t like him, and my comment wasn’t directed at them. If you read closely, maybe you can figure out what pseudonym he’s using here.

The NCAA has already said that UND can keep the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo. They have consequences already in place if they do, those consequences do not include kicking UND out of the NCAA.

UND and our elcted state officials, many who are alumni have no business in deciding what the tribes should do – this is not about UND, it is about equal rights that Indian people are denied because of UND’s interests which are given a higher priority because Indians don’t have representation in our government.

The VAST majority of the Spirit Lake tribe have voted giving support to the school and the name. The Standing Rock tribe has shown a lot of support but has been unable to vote on the issue. I would like to see the Standing Rock tribe be able to vote to know without a doubt how the people feel about the issue. Then UND can either do what the NCAA has as sanctions or the name can be used with the honor and dignity that it was originally given the rights to the name over.

Why is the NCAA afraid of public discussion?

Because, NCAA’s participation was a favor to UND to begin with. It didn’t take long for them to realize what a clusterfuck this logo issue was. So, they wisely rescinded their offer of assistance and stepped away from it all. Its probably a smart legal move on NCAA’s part.
I bet NCAA parting words were, “UND, don’t call us. We’ll call you.”

As much as I disagree with the NCAA, they made the right call – their agreement (or disagreement) is with UND.
What happens between UND and state government is not the NCAA’s concern. They were smart to deal with UND exclusively, and stay out of the conflict between UND and the state.

Although I’m a Bison fan, I would like to see UND keep their mascot. But at what cost? I see legal battle after legal battle on the horizon. The lawyers are grinning ear to ear. Who will pay? Sioux fans, Bison fans, and people who could care a less about either. And to the Sioux supporters who are going to jump down my throat about this “fight” being funded by a private entity…….preach that somewhere else, I’m not buying it.

Lol, they probably realized that the only way to get into Bismarck was to fly a CRJ 200 that has no first class and basically sucks as a plane option. Delta will destroy this supposed wonderful economy ND is experiencing.

GO UND GO! You’ve got the NCAA on the ropes! They’re so scared of ND now that they’re unsure of who has governmental jurisdiction over educational athletics — YEAH!. It’s awesome how ND brought the HAMMER DOWN and put the NCAA in their place. Hey, what’s the NCAA going to do now besides implement the agreed upon sanctions and not allow UND to host post conference play or wear their logo during such play — YEA! UND WINS!…right? …what was this all about again?

I believe that UND should change their nickname and logo…eventually. First, though, I think that the hypocracy of the NCAA needs to be exposed for what it is. If Native American nicknames are offensive, then make all of the teams with Native American nicknames change. And I believe that Native American nicknames are offensive. But let’s be honest, here. To the NCAA, it’s al about money, and a school in Florida has a lot more money to throw around than a school in North Dakota.
I, for one, refuse to watch NCAA sports until they do something about this mess….and the mess in the college football BCS crap.

Bryan, so you’re telling us you’re never going to watch another NCAA athletic event in any way, shape, or form, but only watch NAIA events? Way to stick it to the NCAA, that will make them stand up and listen,,,,,
