Police seek suspect in armed robbery
March 30, 2011 at 4:21 pm in Worthington Daily Globe
WORTHINGTON The Worthington Police Department is seeking a Hispanic male accused of robbing the Urban Fashions store Tuesday evening in downtown Worthington. Continue Reading

Unique clothing/tattoos usually mean “gang”. Armed robbery, fights at bars, miscellaneous vandalism. Downtown worthington sounds like a place to avoid. The willmar newspaper is reporting similar articles. Many countries use profiling to prevent problems before the start. Most if not all of these events have several points in common. Profile. Investigate. Prevent. It is going to be an interesting summer.

Gee. I own a grey hooded sweatshirt. That’s hardly unique in the fashion world. But I best be careful when I wear it that people don’t take me for a gang member, through random profiling! While it’s possible the tear drop tattoo means something more, who really knows? There have been several articles in the Globe recently about arson, robbery, fighting and vandalism where the alleged perpetrators don’t have ethnic last names. Have you read those? Be careful about painting everyone with the same broad brush. Profiling is a slippery slope.

Nobles County:
The number of people who categorized themselves as white went from 18,019 in 2000 to 16,206 in 2010, while those claiming Hispanic heritage went from 2,325 in 2000 to 4,820 in 2010, more than doubling in 10 years. This probably correlates directly with the crime rate also. Looks to me like at least 2000 citizens agreed that this is a place to avoid… it is sad that this is what this county and city does.

Lets just say that the county jail was half citizen and half wrongful immigrants right now. Now lets just say we could prevent or eliminate those wrongful immigrants from being here in the first place. Wouldn’t that cut our crime rate by 50% right there? Put another way, they add 100% to the crime rate! The actual numbers are higher. I know we have the citizen criminal too, but we are pretty much stuck with dealing with that. Dealing with the wrongful immigrant crime is something we should not be paying for at all… Profiling is a slippery slope, but if for no other reason then national security we are going to have to slide down it. Any non-citizen convicted of any crime no mater how small should be deported ASAP!

good discussion eastender. There is nothing in my suggestion about racism. Not even remotely. I am merely saying PROFILE. this is very effective with extremely high success rates. Grey sweatshirts by themselves are only grey sweatshirts. In combination with other things, like tattoos/shoes/certain behaviours, clothing is a big read flag waving in the breeze. Profile isn’t about race, but about behaviours/clothing/where & when/how, etc. Racism only enters because “the gangs” are very sensitive to race. Pay attention to that idea “gangs are very sensitive to race”. It is a defining factor in various negative behaviours and is a very active element in Worthington, Minnesota. Ethnic heritage and religious beliefs are the justifying factors for many senseless acts of violence in the wide world. This is also happening in Worthington, Minnesota. Truth be told, the vast majority of natives could care less about heritage and religion until it interferes with our own views. Then look out. Bottom line, profiling works with extremely high success rates. Speaking from personal experience, clothing/tattoos (totally ignoring race, since white, black, hispanic, etc. doesn’t mean anything negative) is a 95% prediction of trouble brewing. Dont get confused by the distraction of race. Race isn’t considered in a TRUE profile.

Great posts Beans & Deano…..as more and more of this kind of crime continues, children being murdered, raped, and molested, armed robberies, drive-by shootings…even the people like eastender are losing their support.
I’d like to see the globe do a poll on the 16-18 year olds to see how many plan on living here after high school or college. The one’s I’ve talked to can’t wait to leave here and not come back.

Thanks, Pat e. glad Patsback. Now I see Sundown is MIA, I hope he is reincarnated soon. Yes my kids left right after high school, never to return. Things are tough for them too, so I have mentioned that they could return. Answer is always the same (NO WAY). I have a hard time getting them to come for a visit; the truly sad thing is that I can’t blame them! It is not only our best kids leaving, it is also many others and I hope to be one of them when the time comes. Sad… I’m about to pay my property tax, when I look around and see \ think about, what I’m paying for, makes me sadder yet!

Yup, my kids are leaving also. one graduates this spring, one next spring. Solid plans to leave and doesn’t sound likely they will return. I dont blame them. The city economic development consists of encouraging business that doesn’t pay much for wages/benefits and no future. For example: the new hotel/convention center. I worked in those kind of places when I went to college. Part time hours and low wage for all but a few managers/supervisors. Someone will have to build more low income subsidized housing for the workers. No wonder crime is up, and useage of government programs is increasing. I just paid my first quarterly income and property tax is due soon. I am not getting the bang for my buck that I deserve. From my viewpoint the “economic development” we have going on is bringing in skilled citizens (those who are skilled in lying, cheating, stealing) when what we need is liveable wage jobs. Community involvement opportunities seem to involve “feeding the homeless” with no counseling/life skills improvements required, aka skilled citizen magnet. I own a business and I profile everyone, customers and vendors. I can tell with a 95% accuracy rate who is trouble just from noticing the tiny details of body language, clothing, tattoos, speech inflection. The “skilled citizen” population aka “trouble” is increasing rapidly because of the programs that draw them. “Build it and they will come” is true for Worthington. It is time to encourage personal responsibility. If you want a hand up then adjust your attitudes and improve those life skills, (honesty, integrity, work hard) It is time to end bleeding heart liberalism and show those “skilled citizens” to the edge of town and say goodbye!
