It’s sometimes referred to as a “crash tax” — and it eventually could be coming to a Minnesota town near you. Fridley and Columbia Heights already are taking advantage of a state law that allows cities to impose a “reasonable service charge” for serious crashes, rescues and other emergencies. Minneapolis, St. Paul and Burnsville charge only for removing someone from a crushed vehicle. Continue Reading

Huh, well that’s pretty stupid. Does that mean, as a motorist, I can charge them for the extra time it takes to travel through their city due to poorly-timed lights, badly designed road systems, and citizens of their communities that are horrible drivers?
Ridiculous.

Why don’t they charge for Police calls? They could charge 500 for being simple assaulted, 1000 for aggravated assaulted, 1500 for forcible Raped, or 3000 with a DNA investigation surcharge. Only for out of towners though. They could use the money for a new Vikings stadium, bring in more out of towners, and make more crime surcharge tax money! Its a money machine!
It would also make productive citizens out of a previously misunderstood criminal element. An energetic Rapist could bring the city hundreds of thousands a Year!
