An official statement from state Senator Dale Schultz, R-Richland Center, who gave the only “no” vote Wednesday when the Senate passed the collective bargaining portion of the budget repair bill:
“As someone who as spent the better part of the last four weeks working toward and hoping for a compromise, this is a difficult night.
“I’ve had the honor and privilege of representing folks in Southwest and South Central Wisconsin for 28 years, and where I come from ‘compromise’ isn’t a dirty word.
“I’ve received tens of thousands of e-mails, thousands of phone calls and letters, and spent hours meeting with thousands of citizens in my district. I’ve heard personal and heartfelt stories of friends and neighbors, and they ask for just two things.
“First, be inclusive by listening and working with your colleagues on both sides of the aisle to reach a compromise which addresses our fiscal crisis. Second, public employees are willing to make sacrifices on things like wages and benefits, but we need to preserve collective bargaining as a tool which has helped keep labor peace in this state for decades.
“Ultimately, I voted my conscience which I feel reflects the core beliefs of the majority of voters who sent me here to represent them.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues in the days ahead as we now need to join together to work through what promises to be a difficult budget.”
Imagine that….a Republican with a conscience. Poor Dave Schultz, he’s gonna get crushed in the next election, and he’s the only one who isn’t responsible for this mockery created entirely by the Republicans. Guilt by association, I guess.

The story states, “Republicans conspired to take government away from the people.â€
The truth is government was taken away from the unions that control it by new legislation. Power has been given back to the people.
The people, voters’ elected representatives should decide how the government spends their taxes and the elected representatives that showed up passed new legislation. This is how democracy is supposed to work.
Government employees clearly benefit from fair and adequate pay, reasonable hours of work, safe and suitable working conditions, development of opportunities for advancement, facilities for fair and impartial consideration and review of grievances, and other objectives of a proper employee relations policy.
There is no good in government unions having collective bargaining. Government is not a sweat shop nor are government employees oppressed like the taxpayers, especially people out of work, people on fixed incomes, and the working poor.
The government unions and their DEM subservient politicians have proven why FDR was against government union collective bargaining, because it would lead to obstruction of public process, i.e. sick outs in public schools.
We have all witnessed the obstruction of public process by the 14 DEMS and the radical protesters. The militant tactics seen in Wisconsin have no place in the functions of any organization of Government.

It’s about time!!! Government unions are a huge threat and I cannot find one good reason how government unions are fair to all people. Government unions have been real good to their members, but have been devastating to taxpayers.

OK, how does this work? If there is a ‘major strike’ as mentioned above, do the strikers get paid, or does the strike save the state more money? Will Obama visit Wisconsin to make the two ‘at odds’ groups settle the strike, can we sign up now to get a front-row seat and maybe an autograph from the first US president born in Kenya? Oh Boy, this is getting better and better! We don’t need tickets to the DECC to get our entertainment! sorry, just having a little fun….

Unions were necessary 100 years ago. Now, they are outdated and filled with greedy people with a giant sense of entitlements. Do you know who protects me if I get fired? Nobody! I go out and get another job. Those 14 cowardly Dems can stay away forever now. They are as unnecessary as 21st Century unions.

Round one has ended. This class warfare (the one the wealthy investment class has been winning for the past 30 years) is about to get more and more interesting. Unions are not going to get stomped out easily. I’ll bet on it.
And I’ll also bet that the wealthy are going to pay for what they are currently doing in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, New Jersey, and Florida. The war isn’t over. The unions will rise. The tide will turn, or America will fall into dictatorship like the one now happening in Wisconsin where four people (the three Fitzgeralds and Walker) control all of the political activity.
People have a right to organize and bargain for their working conditions except in places like China and North Korea. Think about it. This is America; beacon of hope for the down trodden of the world?
If public employee unions are illegal because of their perceived undue influence on the governments their members serve, then why are businesses and groups allowed to lobby for those interests?
Why are corporations allowed to contribute to political causes that may effect their bottom line?
I need to know.

I couldn’t help but laugh… someone gets offended when someone else says the actions of the people in charge of sending our brothers and sisters to fight and die should be closely watched instead of Al Queda. PC I agree with you… But I will add, instead of watching Al Queda we should be watching these loons on both sides. I’m not about to point fingers at one side or the other completely because that’s not fair, but I will say it’s a horrible mess. Approval ratings show perfectly well that the people of Wisconsin aren’t supporting Walker… I judge him as a single human being who is trying to flush a great state down the toilet. WI has ranked well as far as education, it’ll be too late when we see that drop. I wish people would think before they act, as much as I wish some people would think before they speak (type)

The stooge Bob Jauch unwittingly hit the nail on the head when he said people were commuting political suicide. Yes, some republican might have committed political suicide, but that’s where they differ from the leftist democrats. They are willing to sacrifice themselves for the betterment of the State, while too many democrats are seeking to preserve their own political CAREER. Dems see the public service of being an elected representative as a career, while conservatives see it as an honor to be asked to do the right thing by Wisconsin. Even if it means only serving one term. Until the democrats stop viewing elected office as a career and start seeing it as a sacrifice, they’ll never understand why a majority of people oppose their excessive spending.

So what you are telling me Hugh, is that none of the Republicans serving the State of Wisconsin have been in office an unreasonable amount of time because they all view serving longer than 1 term as dishonorable?

Sorry to confuse you, Art, but I thought I was clear enough that even the thickest of libs would understand. For your sake I’ll elaborate. Some of the republican saw that they’re own jobs may be in jeopardy if they voted to rescind collective bargaining, but they did it anyway, recognizing that the good of the state outweighed any personal political ambitions they may foster. Democrats, on the other hand, are all too willing to cave to the union thuggery if it means extending their time in office. In a nut shell for those slow on the uptake,I’ll re-summarize: Republicans value the state of the State over personal gain. Democrats are willing to do what ever it takes to retain power. Republicans are willing to take one for the team(team Wisconsin), Democrats are all about themselves. Selfish, self-serving, career politicians.

“All Government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service. It has its distinct and insurmountable limitations when applied to public personnel management. The very nature and purposes of Government make it impossible for administrative officials to represent fully or to bind the employer in mutual discussions with Government employee organizations. The employer is the whole people, who speak by means of laws enacted by their representatives in Congress.â€
“Since their own services have to do with the functioning of the Government, a strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to prevent or obstruct the operations of Government until their demands are satisfied. Such action, looking toward the paralysis of Government by those who have sworn to support it, is unthinkable and intolerable.â€

Pete, humor us, show us where our civil rights have been stripped. Do you mean things like the right not to have our vote diluted by fraudulently cast ballots? Maybe it’s the right to freedom of religion, freedom of expression or any of the others guaranteed by the 1st Amendment, rights chairman MaoBama is seeking to stifle. Or is it our second amendment right to bear arms that you and the anointed one so oppose? Does the Gov’t have the right to FORCE me to purchase something against my will(obamacare)? How about the right to dictate what kind of food I eat? The unelected controller of the anointed one, Queen Michele, seems to think so. What about my choice of light bulbs, automobiles, etc? The neomarxist democrats are sparing no effort to dictate how I live, but that’s not a violation of civil liberties? I suppose your ignorance can be explained by your attendance at a public school and having been indoctrinated, errr excuse me, “taught” by public employees; but at some point you must take responsibility for your own continuing education.

This is Federal discrimination under the EEOC laws to single out the teachers of WI and not to apply the same laws to the Police or the Fire departments who are in the same sector. It’s far from over.

Then the same should apply to congress, eh? Wrong. Congress has the power to make laws specifically exempting certain employee groups from complying with their laws. Witness the thousand or so employee and union groups exempt from obamacare. If the police and firefighters cannot be exempt, neither can any of the unions that lobbied fro exemptions from obama’s over-reaching.

They can NOT make their own laws that VIOLATE the Federal LAWS that are in place. This is also Retaliation under the EEOC LAWS to segregate a body of people for being in a union. What’s going to happen is the state is going to end up paying all these effected employee’s back for their lose.

I really doubt that Mr Walker can legelly do what he has done, matter infact right now there has been lawsuits filed on this issue in the federal court system.. So with that being said why would a law suit be filed in a federal court if you think the state has more rights than the fed’s do? I think you need to do some reading. If you would like me to find you the web sites to the EEOC and the NLRB I guess I could do that for you.

To certify an EEOC suit, the burden of proof rests on the plaintiff. Anybody can sue just about anybody else for just about anything. That doesn’t mean there’s any merit to the case. Personally, I hope they file suit. And I also hope that after it’s deemed frivolous, the plaintiffs end up footing the bill for the defense.
