Sen. Jauch hints AWOL tactic nearing end; Damage by Capitol protesters estimated at $7.5 million, more briefs

Poplar Democrat Bob Jauch told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the only way Democrats could kill Gov. Walker’s bill would be stay away permanently and “that’s not practical.” Also, as protesters exit Capitol, officials estimate damage at $7.5 million. Intense lobbying begins to allow UW-Madison split-off, plus more state briefs. Continue Reading

Perhaps $7.5 million is high, but I am angry if it is $7.50. Funny, there was a letter to the editor this week’s HSO from a protestor who said that the capitol looks ‘cleaner now than before the protests’. Apparently their ‘self-organized cleaning crews’ did not address the issue of marble damage from all their garbage being taped to walls, the Madison war memorial and such. Did those volunteers take work away from union cleaning staff?

Glad that the never-ending sleepover is done, that the protestors will take their drums and other noise makers home, and that hamburger grilling will end in the rotunda of the capitol. How about a little law and order for a change?

$7.5 million in damages?! Real nice – that’s just exactly what our financially strapped state needs right now. And I suppose those of us whom they were protesting against are expected to pay for it with our tax $. Governor Walker should cut all those public employee salaries as restitution. I love a man with guts.
