Blows on the head are nothing to be taken lightly, experts say.
These days, athletes are encouraged to sit out sporting events, not quickly return to competition, when they’ve had a concussion.
The concussion issue is serious enough to have caught the attention of the North Dakota State Legislature where a bill was introduced this session that would require any athletic activity sponsored or sanctioned by a school district to have a concussion management program.
Herald features reporter Ann Bailey talked to Dr. Jeff Lystad, a Sanford Health sports medicine physician, about why concussions are serious.
