I think these folks are facing the same issues that will emmerge for many rural ND communities in the near future. Dwindling populations evenually lead to a situation where the finances are simply not enough to keep many small cities running. I know in some cases it spells the end of one community with benefits to another surrounding community that has a stronger citizen base. It’s a definate trend that will have to be dealth with in many rutal areas throughout the midwest. Its sad to see these towns go but its the nature of an aging population. It’s a trend that should be recognized and dealth with by counties and states. Perhaps consolidation in larger more prosperous communities is the answer.
