What the heck is a shoddish? Found that word in your article “Swining back to the 50s.” I think someone should have edited the article and found the word schottische.

There are a lot of articles that are poorly written.

I was going to jump on this “mis-spelling” as well but went to the source of all knowledge – Google – and found many references to shoddish dancing- but clearly (to me) the proper spelling is schottische. So we have possible shoddishy journalism??

I make typos, and I’m sure that most of us do. Sending a friendly message to the editor or reporter about a spelling error would be nicer than belittling them. Just my opinion.

And, as I have learned from one of the reporters, the story was submitted by a high school student. The editor did not include a byline for the student, as some style changes were necessary, yet she wanted to keep the student’s submission in as original as possible and therefore was a little “lenient†with the article.

Then why does the paper have an article on here 2 weeks ago about how bad people’s grammar and the use of commas are? They made a big deal out of it. Now, they want everyone to know all about the awards they are receiving. So, what’s it going to be?

The Echo Press staff strives for excellence. We do the best job we can. When we are honored by our peers, we believe it is an accomplishment worth sharing with our readers. We do not like to make typos or grammar mistakes and we have a system in place to stop them from happening. Unfortunately, errors do happen. We’re human. The “article” Shane was referring to was an Opinion piece by one of our columnists. He was simply making the point that people should try to use apostrophes correctly. We should all try to improve the way we communicate.
