I appreciate that the Bishop’s decision to close parishes is difficult. But it is terribly disappointing that he did not have the courage of his convictions to attend the meeting last night at St. Anthony’s. The legislative mass he attended in Bismarck has been on the calendar for months so it could not have been a coincidence that he missed last night’s meeting. He chose not to attend.
The closing of parishes in the Diocese is a painful prospect. For generations people of faith have sacrificed their time, talent, and treasure to sustain parish life. Attending the meeting to address parishioners directly is the least the Bishop could do.
