Actually, the new Center’s a lot more than just a swimming pool, as it includes a health and fitness center . Here’s the official website: http://www.ymcaworthington.org/

The Y’s not elitist. Membership is open to all. Anyone can join. They don’t discriminate. The website’s very clear on that.

Why all the cynicism? Has anyone else noticed lately that virtually EVERY comment — regardless of the article’s content — has been angry or negative? Are we really all that miserable? Is our lot in life really so tragic? Americans are better off than 90% of the world’s population but it never seems good enough. Some people’s first reaction is to criticize, to blame, to denigrate, to complain… almost always without offering any solutions. All you hear is that “people in authority are idiotic, crooked, incompetent”. Is there nothing to be grateful for? Do you really think someone’s out to get you?
I encourage you to take a glance at the posts on the articles here and count the comments that are positive or constructive. You’ll see quickly they’re in the minority. If you’re so unhappy, try to do something to make it better. Being an armchair quarterback is unproductive.
Two sayings come to mind: “If you don’t have something good to say about someone, don’t say anything at all.” And, “It’s better to be silent, and to be thought stupid, than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.”

Still Not Getting It? Ok it’s obvious you haven’t lived here long! Talk to some of the older residents, ones that are old enough to really remember say 25 or so years ago. I’m sure you will get a lot of background on how this town has deteriorated over the years. It may look clean on the surface but underneath it’s dirty. As I said talk to the citizens, and not the 15% that make a killing off of the people but to the other 85% paying the price. Then if you still don’t get it, all I can say is, as pat e. says…welcome to Worthington you will come to love us… or something like that! Most likely it will be the other way around. The longer the worse..

“Why all the cynicism?”—–Eastender, how long have you lived in Wgtn? What Deano is pointing out is the fact that we are now a 24/7 “packing plant” town. With that title comes many issues & perceptions, mostly negative. The city leaders could dump every penny of the million$ made from the WRH sale into new bricks and paint, and guess what, were still a packing plant town….and that is the truth, cynical or not! Until the real issues are dealt with, Worthington will continue to bow to the alter of the packing plant at the expense of all of it’s citizens.

Guess we should try to shut it down. I doubt that will have any finacial impact at all. Go back to Worthington before the packing plant…..when the city depended on…..Campbells….oh hmmmm. Gee i wonder what the difference is….

I grew up here. I get it.
Miserable people should put their heads together to come up with SOLUTIONS, not just use this comments forum as a vehicle to lob grenades at authorities from the sidelines. I still say you should all get a table at the Blue Line and vent offline. You’ll have a great view of JBS from there, as well. JBS isn’t going away. I believe you know that. So, you and others have a choice. Work to fix what you consider to be problems, or keep quiet. Share your “real issues” with people who are paid to listen to you, like city officials.
Doesn’t all this whining and negativity wear you down?

When you grew up here and how long you have lived here since can make a big difference on your view. For instance my kids grew up here also and say like in high school they knew there was a problem but they couldn’t understand the scope of it. Since they grew up with it, it was all they knew and thought it was just the way it is\was. Since moving on to areas that more resemble the United States they now understand the problems faced here. One of the real sad things is that they had to grow up in the oppressed environment that Worthington offers. They grew up without many things due to the illegal and wrongful oppression of the area. In hindsight I would have done things differently, but it snuck up slowly.
There is no room for growth here. Except maybe for foreigners. Not the way many think a U. S. town should be.
