On eve of Daugaard speech, legislators brace for big cuts

PIERRE State lawmakers seemed resigned Tuesday that they will be in a political box after Gov. Dennis Daugaard calls for sweeping budget cuts in a special address today to the Legislature.
More than a few legislators, Republicans and Democrats alike, sounded more interested in raising state taxes, rather than pursue the reductions of 10 percent or more they expect the new Republican governor will recommend for state government’s general fund budget. Continue Reading
