States don’t have independent foreign policies…the national debt is the purview of the federal government.
The consequences of defaulting on it are globally apocalyptic…putting the federal debt in the hands of people unaccountable to foreign affairs is a terrifying prospect.

This from a state that receives far more Federal money than it pays in.
Interesting.

So true, ND is 5th in states receiving the most federal dollars per capita. When Sen. Hoeven was our governor he spoke out against the stimulus package and then took it anyway and has attended countless ground breaking ceremonies paid for by stimulus money. We want to talk a good talk but don’t want the pork to stop flowing into North Dakota.

Last time I checked, every state was already represented in the body that makes these decisions, the US Congress.

Get all of our military out of other countrys. Gernmany and other European countries can get their own militarys and support it.
Encourage parents to homeschool. Government education is just corporate daycare and because of that they don’t have to pay kid’s parents as much money. Because their neighbors are paying the daycare (K-12 education) bills.
Start up manufacturing companies where the employees own the company and not some CEO who gets rich on the lower employee’s backs..
Start growing locally and organically. Manufacture and trade right here in the U.S.
Stop paying for immigrants expenses like free daycare school and medical and food stamps and so on. Don’t believe me, ask California about that.

It must be cold in He11 today. I had to give GBA a “thumbs up”. Sure, some of his post is crazyness, but much of it makes sense.
Think local, build local, buy local, BUY AMERICAN, invest in your own jobs, take care of American citizens before others inside or outside of our borders, bring the troops home.

100% agree about getting our military out of other countries–Ron Paul has been talking about this for years. A conservative estimate by the US Defense Depart…250 billion a year to maintain 837 overseas sites. These countries can start paying for their own defense; we are broke and no longer can sustain being the world cop. It is time we start using some money to fix our infrastructure..roads, bridges, a 1950′s electrical grid and to improve security at our ports, nuclear plants, etc. All of that said no one really listens to Rep. Paul because of all the money being made by our military contractors–the very thing Pres. Eisenhower warned against. Maybe it is going to take the voices of the common taxpayer to overwhelm our congressmen to stop this.

The proposed amendment is a bad idea. The debt needs to be attacked, though. How about for starters that we don’t get involved in wars without financing them? A pay-as-we-fight income tax surcharge might make some people (rich people) think twice about invading other countries. The wealthy have made almost no sacrifices in Iraq and Afghanistan. Very few of their children have enlisted. The war is fought by the children of the poor and middle classes.
