The Catholic Diocese of Fargo is proposing to combine parishes, close one church, move another and open two schools.

I hope the Diocese here paid attention to how Olivet handled their recent problems. They were up front, make public apologies and were very transparent about what went on. Unlike this diocese who continue to pretend that “things” didn’t happen with certain priests. I takes a big hit on your credibility.

Are you saying that if the media had not found out about the pastors DUI’s that Olivet or the two pastors would have told the public? I don’t think they would have.

downsizing is just another way that our Higher Power is probably letting us know things need to change.Life will go on and hopefully we will realize that the important TEMPLES are our Human bodies and souls.

Hard to say. Given that it would have eventually been published as fines in the Forum, it may have come up then. The difference is that there has NEVER been apologies from the diocese for FELONIOUS activity.

This is not downsizing. It is due to increasing church attendance and population shifts. It has nothing to do with any scandals. But I knew the anti-Catholic bigots would bring them up.

Population shifts maybe zardoz, but most of the article suggests a decline. While you have somewhat of a point about the other comments, there has been an undeniable move away by many catholics worldwide as a result of the scandals. This has hardly been helped by the new evidence of cover ups at the highest level.

Mr. Zardoz, keep it civil and stay on topic and no personal attacks. I did not come to the same conclusion that you did reading the posts. Perhaps some sensitivity counseling may help. You may wish to talk to your parish priest about this. Apparently you are a devout Catholic. True Christians do not refer to others as “bigots”. Perhaps it was a slip of the fingers.

Just, the Fargo population has increased and so has the number of Catholics. It is that simple. There is no new evidence. They keep trying, but when you actually look at the documents they don’t say what is reported.
Abu, bigots? A Muslim has no right to lecture about bigotry. The Copts are living in fear. Christians in Muslim countries endure horrible persecution. You guys corner the market on bigotry. I suggest you take care of your own problems before commenting on ours.

Mr Zardoz, I have told you repeatedly I am not Muslim so why do you continue to harass me with personal attacks and suggest that I am a bigot. Do not your priests have a long history of molesting young boys? Is not your church run by old men that have no experience mingling with women and young people? The Catholic Church has paid out hundreds of millions of dollars in reparations for the ill deeds of its leaders and there are sure to be many many more cases. And even if I tell you that I am Muslim, how many cases of child molestation in the US are you aware of that involved Muslims? How many hundreds of millions of dollars have Muslims paid in reparations? Was not the Catholic Church embroiled in a long and bloody war complete with terroristic acts in Great Britain that lasted for decades? I would not say Catholics corner the market on anything. I think they have the whole block!

Abu, so you are a Christian or an atheist? Your comments reveal your ignorance and bigotry. Most children are not abused by priests. Recently MTV ran the program Skins which is child pornography. Muslims should pay billions of reparations for their past history. In Islam child abuse is legal and moral, Muhammad married a 9 year old. The Church was not at war in Ireland, in fact they opposed the IRA. The IRA was a Marxist organization. Don’t you do your homework?

Mr. Zardoz, as you would expect, a person may not reveal the religious leanings on such a public venue. So I am ignorant and a bigot? On what do you base that? I did not say “most” children are abused by priests. Those are your words but I suppose you would know. I cannot comment on the issue of Muhammad and the Muslim religion because I am not a follower. For that I am sorry. Perhaps I misspoke when I stated that the Catholic Church was at war. What was intended was that the waring occurred between Catholics and Protestants. I doubt they would have condoned the violence any more than they would condone child abuse. That doesn’t lessen the fact that Catholics have been engaged in violence in the past. I spent some time in Great Britain during the time when the violence occurred and I can tell you that it created great danger to the population with the bombings and shootings.
Abu, I base it on your previous post. For example I am surrounded by Lutherans and was unaware we were at war. If you ask Catholics in Belfast they could tell you stories of their treatments at the hands of the Orange Order.
