National Weather Service plans to issue ‘extreme cold warnings’ — Takes into account cold with little wind

The National Weather Service may be issuing a new type of weather warning in the next weeks. The NWS offices of North and South Dakota and Minnesota will experiment with issuing “extreme cold warnings,” according to John Paul Martin, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Bismarck.

I believe we may be getting extreme weather alerted to death. I agree with blizzard warnings when they are imminent, but not two weeks ahead of schedule. I believe we as Minnesotans know that if it’s below zero, any added wind makes it dangerous. I don’t think we need the idiot scrollings on TV every evening warning us of the dangers of cold weather or what we should consider normal winter driving conditions in this region.
