Myth busted: Road costs not covered by gas taxes, says report

A new report released this week by U.S. Public Interest Research Group disproves the common misperception that road-building is paid for by user fees, showing that gas taxes cover barely half the costs of building and maintaining roads, a fraction which is likely to fall steadily.

Clearly we need to raise the gas taxes even more. Gas should be gold. It is a privilege to use it. It is not a right. Alexandria needs to look at its use of funds overall and understand that taxes and death are a part of life. Raise the gas taxes to pay for the roads.
