I’m sorry, but anyone who decides to move to MY state needs to understand the rules. No murdering, no violent crimes, no drugs, no bad manners, no discontent. Come on, people! I moved away, but I want to come back to that perfect place I grew up. Stop letting the riffraff in! Maybe that artic coldfront headed your way will help. This is a tragic story. My heart goes out to the victim’s family and friends.
Hot debate. What do you think?

How can you give me a thumbs down? I love my state and the people who live there. Is it bad to say I want it to remain a safe place to live and raise children? That’s weird. Or, is it that I said the crime was tragic and my heart goes out to the family and friends? Wow. Must not be a native? Or I’m missing something…..

Its because you’re coming across as intolerant and you’re unnecessarily generalizing. But, I get your point, so I’ll offset the red thumbs with a green one for ya…

Not my post but I can be VERY tolerant — to anybody who wants to come to this area and live the style of life that we do. For those who wish to come here and CHANGE our way of life, PLEASE do NOT, just go some place else. My grandparent & great-grandparents did not bust their butts to only have others destroy — they came here to help make this the wonderful area that it is.

Thank you, Custard Pie. I AM intolerant of the criminal activity that has increased in ND, as well as the severity of the crimes. However, I don’t see where the generalizing is…UNLESS people are assuming that when I said, “stop letting the riff raff in,” I meant EVERYone who is not from NoDak. Whoa! THAT is NOT what what I meant. I meant not to let the people who intend to be part of the criminal activity in our state…which is OBviously not possible. Tongue-in-cheek humor was inappropriate and obviously misconstrued. Thank you for helping me analyze my comment longer. Wow. I always come here to get a taste of “home”. I think I just got a good taste of what moving “home” might be like.

I agree Ms ndakotagirl, like the truck driver who killed the people in GF, he should have to play by the rules. He is from some foreign country called Jamestown. And then that 16 year old girl that killed the young man when she was drinking and lost control of her car. She is also from some foreign country called “South Fargo”. Then there were those othe deaths by automobiles driven by foreigners. And remember the old lady who killed the motorcycle people, she was from ND I think. Yes it is true, most of the people who live here never do anything wrong. Also, old people shouldn’t drive as witnessed by all of the young people killed in car accidents recently. Old people don’t know how to drive.

First, Abu al Khayr, I hope the people involved in all of the incidents you mentioned aren’t reading this, as your sarcasm is extremely insensitive. Perhaps my comment was said too lightly, as well. I’m not so naive that I would think all crime is created by non-NoDaks or that my state was actually perfect when I was growing up there. If it were possible to remove all criminal activity from “my Eutopia”, I’d be all for it. I don’t care where the criminals come from. I also don’t care where those who want to live in “my Eutopia” come from as long as they abide by the laws. It would be nice to live in a world without crime, accidents, drugs, hatred, and evil. Could we agree on that?
Mr. Johnson was taken away by a 4 month resident of the state who had a criminal record and who apparently didn’t even know him, according to the article. Yes, the crime could have been committed by a native NoDak, but it wasn’t. That is what my comments were referring to. This is a tragic crime.
Again, my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim of this crime as you come to terms with your loss. I’m sorry for the discontent my comment created on this wall. You only deserve support right now.

R.I.P. Mr. Johnson, we’ll see to it that this piece of garbage is taken care of. My prayers to all he left behind.

Miss ND, from what you say, it seems that you will tolerate people who are determined to be “native” to the state, by your definition, to murder or commit other crimes and that is somehow not as bad as if the same crime is committed by someone from some other part of the country. Perhaps they are more dead if the murderer is from some other part of the country than from ND. Or perhaps a persons life is worth less if they are killed by a fellow ND person. I fail to understand the logis in this thinking. I also don’t believe, by reading many news outlets in the region, that ND people are any less prone to crime than anyone else. This is a conservative state and conservatives have a long reputation for killing those with whom they disagree. One only read today’s news to see that. There is a book called “Bitter Harvest” that illustrates this very well.

Kurt was a gentle person. He was a good friend who will be dearly missed. So senseless. My prayers go out to his children.
