Suspect being held in Jamestown jail
A murder investigation is under way after the body of a North Dakota State University researcher was found in a Cooperstown, N.D., home. Continue Reading

Once again, we find that a major violent crime is committed by someone who is not from the area. I’d love to see stats that breakdown major crimes committed with a weapon, and whether the aggressor was not originally from this area.
I smell a pattern…

What are you gonna do? Kick everyone that wasn’t born and raised in this area out? Christ, get over it already! Besides, they don’t even know who did it yet, could be anybody! He sounds like a very nice guy, who didn’t deserve it one bit. Its a shame that anyone could do this, local or not.

I agree. Such xenophobic comments are uncalled for.

Border fences for ND!!!! Keep out the undesirables because the other 99,999 people that traveled through the state must be up to no good too

Really? According the the TV report, the body was found inside the suspect’s house. The Forum now has a picture of the suspect, but as of 1:25pm today, no name yet. The cops have a pretty good case going here – I don’t think it “could be anybody”.

Well at the time of my comment, which was at 8:18 am, I hadn’t heard that little tid bit yet. I would have looked into the future, but my crystal ball has been malfunctioning lately. And while I agree with you he likely is the culprit, It still has not been proven In the court of law. But when I get my ball working again, Ill let you know if he in fact is the guy.

Well, Im not sure which TV report you watched, but WDAY and KVLY are both saying “a Cooperstown, N.D., home”. Nowhere have I been able to confirm it was the suspects house as you say. If you can cite your sources, I’ll stand corrected.

15 reported murders or manslaughters in ND last year and only 4 were commited by strangers or mere ‘aquaintances’. That means the rest were killed by people that lived her and were related to them so theres a good chance they are ‘From’ here.

I have to agree with my buddy Bob here (since he did prove me wrong, and made me feel bad for making the smart a** comment above), that they look to have a good case against this guy. But without proof I can only assume, and if there is one thing I have learned in life, it is never assume anything.

Just because they live here does not mean they are from here.

I just hope people don’t become ignorant to the fact that this very well could have been someone from here. We live in a very safe area of the country, but don’t assume that violent crimes are only committed by people foreign to the area. That’s a silly assumption to make, and one that could make you a victim.

It is likely that we simply have a resource that those who practice criminal behaviors like when they are choosing a place to live: wide open remote spaces

I do agree with your other comment, that we can’t “Kick everyone that wasn’t born and raised in this area out” – we’ve got plenty of homegrown riff-raff.
And I don’t assume this guy is guilty of murder, but if a dead body is in your house for the better part of a week, I’d think that you may have some involvement. If I was a betting man, I’d bet that law enforcement has a key player, if not the killer – they usually withhold key evidence from the press at this stage. Stay tuned.

As a member of the community I would like to say I just wish that people would repeat things that they only know to be true, as disturbing as this whole situation is by spreading rumors you are only making it more disturbing to the victim’s family!!

With the exception of the original comment from biohazard, who has already persecuted the suspect without proof, I don’t think anyone has stated anything untrue. Do some of the comments lean in a certain direction? Yes they do. But almost all of the posts have been related directly to information obtained from news reports with some of them even cited. I think I can speak for all of us and say that we have much sympathy for Mr. Johnson’ friends and family. However, this is a valid topic for discussion, and is cause for concern to many.

Looks like Adam Sandler should also be a suspect.

I believe conventional wisdom would dictate that it can be stated with absolute certainty that this man is not only “thought” to be murdered but the finding his head in another man’s home firmly proves it. Did it say that he lived in Jamestown? Is that not the same town that harbored the truck driver who murdered the two children on the highway by Grand Forks. That also was a gruesome crime. As was the young girl who mutilated the young man with her vehicle in north Fargo. It is with certainty that these criminals from outside the area must be put in jail for the rest of their lives or longer. Perhaps many lives would be saved by arresting these people and putting them in jail now.

Are you sure he lived in Jamestown? What do you mean by harbored? Just because the truck driver that was involved in the accident in Grand Forks resided in Jamestown doesn’t mean he was harbored. BTW has he been charged with anything yet?

A pre-emptive arrest? I’m pretty sure that is illegal.

This guy was a wanted felon before he moved to Cooperstown. He was hired to work by a local company in Cooperstown and even stopped by the towns law enforcement for driving without liability insurance. Why wasn’t his background checked out? Now days it is so easy to do a background check on someone, you would think he would have been arrested and sent back to jail long before this tragedy happened. I think this should be a wake up call to show this can happen anywhere. Do background checks no matter how trusting/reliable a person might seem. My thoughts are with the Johnson family at this time.

Mr. Jake, I believe most conservatives refer to local law enforcement as Barney Five. Being stopped for the driving without liability insurance smacks of an unintentional stop. People are not just stopped for this reason. Perhaps the fact that he was not familiar to law enforcement was all that was needed for them to pull him over. And why would a background check be made of someone for no reason. Do you suggest that everyone in your community be subject to a background check? Who will decide which offenses will result in the person being sent to Montana? People preach less government and less government intrusion but what they really want is more government and more government intrusion. Confusing, very confusing.

I believe you meant “Barney Fife.” Check out The Andy Griffith Show” to familiarize yourself.
1. Keep it civil…
2. …..or personal attacks.
3. People who harass others….
It is possible for respectful human beings to express their opinions and disagree with what others are saying without being hateful and sarcastic. I believe “Keep it civil…” addresses that.
Before you think I agree or disagree with anything else being said here and decide to launch a “personal attack” my way, please stop yourself. I’m simply suggesting that the tone of your posts (on all of the topics I’ve seen them on) is very argumentative, and they really do make the message boards needlessly negative. It is obvious that you enjoy the negativity and personal attacks on others, but perhaps you could find another forum. No pun intended.

Ms Northdakota girl, I find it hard to believe that you would select me for your little sermon. I am personally attacked by conservatives on nearly every post I make. It has been suggested I be kicked out of the country. My name it has been made fun of. I make statements I can back up with facts and people call me stupid or angry. They make similar statements that are nothing but empty statements. Check the replies that have been made to my comments and you can judge for yourself. Please note, unlike some of the people who disagree with me, I have not implied bodily harm, suggeste that they be kicked out of the country, or in anyway told them they have not right to speak. It has been suggested that I receive welfare payments. In fact, I suspect the level of education of my wife and me and that of other family members as well as my earning capacity and acquired wealth would place me among the top 1% of North Dakotans and I, unlike many Republican farmers, have never received one cent in government aid. I suggest that perhaps you direct your suggestion to reduce the negativity and personal attacks to the real perpetrators, some of whom have already been banished. And my apologies to Mr Fife. My finger apparently hit the “V” key immediately below the “F” key. I appreciate your pointing out my typing error. I hadn’t noticed that you were concerned about the typing and grammar skills of others but perhaps that is because I am an overly sensitive liberal foreign welfare recipeint. Douche!

Ms northdakota girl, I don’t mean to insult you but you do not write like woman. Puzzling. But one other point I wish to make. If you look at the thumbs up/down for my posts, you will often see where a person they will agree with me or I with them. The other persons posts will get many favorable votes. My comment, even if it is the first, will not. Does this seem strange to you? Do you have any theories on why this happen? I would love to hear from you? I should point out that I am not naive and I know very well what happens. I am just wondering if you agree.
