Duluth Mayor Don Ness announced a plan to use tourism tax money for Enger Tower renovation while visiting a Central High School art class whose students have been learning about and producing art work of Enger Tower for a service-learning project. Continue Reading

Unreal… Has Mayor Ne$$ ever come across a tax of fee he did not like?
Do Duluthians know they are not tourists every time they dine out?
What is next? Charge Duluth residents an exodus fee?
Where is there a list of how many things tourist taxes pay for?

I would like the council to determine whether or not Enger Tower brings tourist money to Duluth commensurate with the proposed cost of repair. I would rather see rebuilding or replacing the wonderful tourist attraction torn down in 1939: The 7TH AVENUE WEST INCLINE RAILROAD I feel would be a much better project for both the ‘locals’ enjoyment and for tourism. Let’s revisit this attraction/topic before running out and spending foolishly money we don’t have.

Enger Tower has long been part of Duluth’s history. And not just from a standpoint of bringing in tourists. It would be quite sad if they let it fall into disrepair and turn in into an eyesore, just because some whiners (like the ones you’ll see on this site) don’t want to see a Duluth landmark maintained for many future generations.

***** weatherization and improved accessibility.*****
hmmm. No way this think can be made to comply with the Federal Accessibility laws. Will the bureaucrats allow an exception or do we need to install an elevator?

Where should the money needed for repairs come from? Its a tourist attraction!!!!!
As long as its not unneeded things like goofy lighting, it would only be fit to preserve it! Bigdog have you
spent any actual time up there?? I spend many days up there and many people are from out of town hence tourists and highly enjoy coming to Duluth for this place and its views also people that are from Duluth who actually use the park would never agree with not keeping it in operatable condition!

I couldn’t care any less about it. Let the people who shed crocodile tears over it pay for it.
