My heart felt sympathy to the famly and friends of Paul.
I lived on St.Croix Trail, and was a neighbor of “The Alps” for about 30 years. I have fond memories of the conversations Paul and I would have when we ran into each other at all times of the year. The fondest memories are of those sitting in the “main” in the late afternoon over looking the skiers and just relaxing. Paul with his bowel of soup, and myself with a burger and a beer. He`d let me park my snowshoes at the table, and often would joke about me looking like Grizzly Adams after a snowshoe trek through the Afton State Park.
Both my son and daughter learned to ski across the street, and later they both got their first jobs working for Paul. The work ethics he instilled in my kids still has it`s effects today. He treated my family well, and often commented on how well my kids were trusted by him and the others. Afton Alps, Tom, Paul, and the family were the best neighbors I could have ever asked for.
Paul was an innovator, a dreamer, and a man with vision and fortitude. I no longer live in the Denmark Township area, but I wanted on record and in a public forum, how I felt about Paul and his Afton Alps family….including those many long time employees both part and full time over the years. They were good to me and my children, and always respectful and kind.
Again, my sympathy to you all.
Paul Augustine, may you rest in peace………
