Helgaas speaks on plant project: He tells JSDC members that it is designed for rural communities

Maynard Helgaas, president of Green Vision Group, looks at green energy as rural economic development. He made his presentation to members of the Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corp. and its guests Thursday.
“We are designing this project for rural communities,” he said. “Our goal is to add a new high-value crop for the farmers and process it near where it is grown.”

If this is such a great idea, they should have no problem finding private funding. Venture capitalists would be falling all over themselves to fund this project if it was viable. Keep taxpayer money out of it!! All we have to do is look at the horrible track record of other ethanol projects in the region to see how this story is going to end.

I think that essentially, the JSDC operates as if it were a private venture. I think that investing in green energy is a money-loser. I like the idea of green energy, but the JSDC is playing with the money of taxpayers and as such, should not be investing in things that are destined to be non-profitable.
