I’ve been handling auto insurance claims for nearly three decades and if there is one piece of advice I could give anyone, and I’ve given it time and time again to my teenaged daughters, that would be to cock your wheels a little to the right when stopped to make a left turn. I’ve seen too many cases like this all across the country over the years. The person stopped to make the left turn has their front wheels turned slightly to the left, because that is the direction they’re about to turn. When they’re rear-ended by a car coming up from behind, they’re shot into the oncoming lane of traffic and a head-on collision occurs. If the stopped vehicle has its wheels cocked to the right, the force of the rear-end collision will send them off to the right shoulder and away from oncoming traffic. Following this simple piece of advice could save your life.
