Fargo panel gets data on discounts
Fargo took its first steps Wednesday in the discussion over what if anything should be done about drink discounts that encourage overconsumption. Continue Reading

Stop wasting your time, isn’t there any unsolved crimes or burglaries the Chief should be pursuing not local business men?

After this lets outlaw dancing too. Then they can make a movie about us. They can call it Footloose!
Hey Keith Terns – how about we set a limit on doughnut purchases for the department. Any discount could encourage overconsuption and in turn lead to poor health which will cost us as taypayers for lost time at work and health care. I want this to go in front of the city council as well. In the meantime you should patrol your beats better to prevent strong arm pizza guy robberies. You already have your Nani checkpoints and might as well go for the Stalinist control over business right. Welcome to what we call the USA. Dirty shame.
Well you know the city is suffering a shortfall. They have to make up the revenue some how by outlawing more things so they can ticket more people thus providing a means to justify the police departments job of protecting our community..
God I wish i could vote you out of office.
The police chief needs to be an elected position.
Am in agreement, Maverick.
The Temperance movement should have died in the 30′s, with the rescinding of prohibition. If they really want to stop drunk driving, make the campus’s wet. Allow the students the option of NOT driving when they drink. Let them drink at home. They could also run the city buses 24/7 so they have the option of mass transit. I am sure the DUI revenue would easily pay for that.
BUT, as Maverick said, that would take a huge chunk out of their DUI revenues and heaven forbid their not having justification to have 9 patrol cars cruising broadway after midnight every night.
Leave us alone. That is all we ask of you. Just leave us alone. Stop hassling us when we walk, talk, drive, eat, drink, smoke, shop, and sleep. Stop imposing your will on us. Don’t worry about us drinking too much for too cheap. Just get your own life, and leave us alone! Do you get that? We are irritated by your ideas about how to control our lives. We don’t want to hear them. Just leave us alone.
There may be a correlation but that doesn’t imply causation. People will stay get drunk.
*still get drunk.
There is an unspoken political thing here. The places that are giving cheap drink specials compete with the upscale restaurants. If the prices were even with the Hodo, and such, people would go to those places instead.
The police shouldn’t be interfering with the free market like that.
I volunteer to help out with this study. I’m going to need a driver, a list of places with drink specials, and $1000.
I can already tell you that my study will probably conclude that the affects of drink specials result in an increased craving for Taco Johns hard shell tacos.
People will just drink before they go out, so now there will be more drinking and driving. They are going to create a bigger problem than already exists. I doubt the Liquor Control Commision and the good chief have enough common sense to see that, because they rely on studies, which prove absolutely nothing.
There are people who think they should be able to regulate smoking inside your own home, eventually will they want to regulate drinking?
With a majority of the population being college students in F/M, more of them will stay away from the bars if drink specials are eliminated causing decreased revenue. This will cause them to stay home or go to friends instead and get drunk there which will increase drunk driving…sounds like this is a great plan…
get a life, protect and serve…what ever happened to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…this over consumption of alcohol is what keeps your station afloat with all the DWI’s handed out
That’s odd…. I never got any survey in the mail or on my front door, where were these ‘studies’ done at? I’m guess not anywhere around this area, otherwise we wouldn’t be having this discussion right now.
There isn’t anything to do in Fargo/Moorhead except to drink in order to forget that you live in Fargo/Moorhead. If anything, there should be more drink specials. Maybe eliminate beer and just have mixed drinks and shots, to make the forgetting quicker.
