Minnesotans years from now will be thankful that a legislature is now in place to check Mr. Dayton’s mission to “expand government spending on essential services.” What does that mean anyway? More welfare for everyone who comes up here from Chicago for an EBT card? Maybe it means more patronage jobs for his AFSCME pals.
When will we understand that taxation and spending policies matter in whether Minnesota is economically competitive with the other 49 states? I believe Mr. Pawlenty understood this and his efforts to take Minnesota out of the top tier of the most heavily taxed states helped Minnesota ride through this recession a bit better than we would otherwise would have.
Look at the states that have spent and taxed with reckless abandon: California, New York, New Jersey, Illinois. These states are in really serious trouble and I don’t think we want to be in that bunch.
When we stop hearing the radio ads South Dakota peppers us with every day, then perhaps we will have “turned the corner” and made Minnesota an economically competitive state for businesses to create jobs and promote prosperity in Minnesota for Minnestoans.
