Upstream interests get seat at table for diversion meetings
December 9, 2010 at 6:03 pm in INFORUM
Communities upstream of the proposed Red River diversion didn’t get many answers Thursday, but they did receive a seat at the decision-making table. Continue Reading

Nyhof’s message would have carried more weight if he would speak to defend the area rather than his precious Oxbow community. He did make reference to Hickson & Bakke but his main message pertained to just Oxbow. I thought it was sad that one of the residents of Hickson/Bakke had to actually pipe up and ask to “not be forgotten in this whole discussion.”

This diversion should be moved to the MN side where it is more cost effective and where there are more limited technical challenges.

By this spring they’ll have had 14 years that they’ve known about the risk of the river and 14 years they didn’t fix the problem. It really is pathetic.

Who gave me the thumbs down? And why? It’s outrageous to assert that Fargo has not been totally irresponsible in approaching this problem for over a decade.
So many around here are against federal spending here yet they whine that the reason Fargo didn’t do what GF did was because we didn’t get the federal dollars.

I should add that the communities near Fargo have gone the extra mile to be irresponsible by refusing getting a new flood assessment for the area because the residents there didn’t want to pay for it.

Sounds like they are getting some common sense. I have been saying for years now that the solution isn’t a diversion, or building higher dikes. Its in water retention upstream.
If we spend just a little extra doing it, we can have water features that will have recreational value and attract tourism. A dime spent will bring in a dollar of outside revenues… and we will have water in storage to meet the needs of our growing communities.
