On contraceptive policy, the Vatican is a hostage to itself

Once again we read of the pope’s struggle to extract Catholics from their self-imposed contraceptive blockade (“Faithful react to pope’s condom justification,” Nov. 22). It is all amusing and would make a swell comic opera. But alas, the issue is deadly serious. Continue Reading

I’m with the writer on this one… professional male virgins telling the rest of the world what is right and what is wrong in the theater of human relations and sexual conduct. As for being the sole true speaker for God, what another great scam. In the only reference book ever written on the topic it is clearly said that God is in each of us, and we need no middle man to speak for Him. If the pope were to truly practice what he preaches, he’d hock all the costly and valuable goods in the Vatican, and spend the money on the poor. All the flashy and expensive adornments of his office do not make him more godly or holy, and only serve to deprive some other miserable wretch of a meal or a bit of warm clothing or a place to live.

Tom, you’re right on. The sooner we realize that “god” is part of who we all are….and not some separate being out there, the sooner we’ll advance in our human/spirtual journey. I frequently ponder how much different and better our society would be if we had less fancy church buildings and rather an attitude of helping those who need it with our offerings. In my opinion it’s easier to talk with god in the woods or anywhere you can experience nature than it is in a big fancy church. Sooner or later we’ll get there….it’s just a matter of how many centuries or maybe eons it will take to find our way. I keep telling myself that good things always take time to evolve.
