Unable to compete with the large national chains, the independent local chain instead will get out of the way.

Wow, we’re sure seeing signs of the changing times here with many of the long-time local businesses going under in the last few years. Falks, I’m not surprised at though. Despite the great fact that they delivered, they were horribly overpriced. Here’s hoping everyone employed by them keeps jobs with the incoming pharmacies.

That may be true…..didn’t do any business there.
All I can say is those with prescriptions at Walgreen’s should be Sure of what their doctor is Ordering for them and Double Checking to be sure that is what they are Getting. Check Name of the Drug, Strength to be used and what amount should be taken along with when. And if you see the label says ‘take as directed’…..have them put the Actual ‘Directed’ instructions on the prescription….i.e…..2 tablets Twice a day or 1 tablet Once a day etc..
You can probably guess why I am saying this.

I agree 100%, I have gotten more then one RX over the years that was WRONG from walgreens…the wrong amount, the wrong mg/or the worng # of days it was to be taken.
So CHECK and then CHECK again, and question anything you think is off….
Also the wait at Walgreens is ALWAYS so long…and all they care about is the bottom line not the people.
I am looking into going Two Harbors or all mail order.

A couple of things…
#1) There are going to be a lot of ‘the older’ people that have come to depend on the Pharmacists to tell them when something has changed, or to talk to them about there medications that are going to be just lost, and then you have the ones that get home delivery that are now going to have to go out,(that might mean paying for a cab, or depending on someone to take them).
#2) Walgreen’s is not saying that Falk stuff are going to have jobs all they said is that they are handing out applications…
#3) the one on one personal attention that you get at Falks is going to be gone, they care about there customers and they know them/there families and they go out of the way to help.
I know why he is doing this, there is no way for Falks to keep up with “the big” boys…and that is just so sad…they will all be missed my so many.
Just one more family owned business that is being eaten by a big corporation.

Of course you know why he’s doing this. He made reference that he couldn’t keep up (3) times in the story.
Where in the story did it say Walgreen’s was handing out apps? It did say employess will transfer there.
Preston said it was off the table until Walgreen’s called and said it’s a deal. So whatever it was, he got what he wanted. Hopefully it’s a retirement or semi-retirement. He certainly deserves it.
Like or Dislike: 7 13
It was said at 6 and 10pm on the NEWS last night that they were handing out apps.
“YES”,I know why he is doing it that is what I said, a BIG company is running the family owned places out.

LOL, I’don’t wonder why she was counting ands and ors in my comments on another article and what That had to do with Anything……I am learning to simply ignore these off the planet (and rocker and wall) comments and just move along Past it.
Note my EXTRA use of AND……hehehe

I just wish that people would stay on topic and not go for attacking others.
But then some people have nothing else too do.
Like or Dislike: 15 8
Not sure it has anything to do with ‘nothing else to do’ as much as it does grudge holding and the unnecessary need to be right or have the last word at any expense.
I have disagreed (sometimes vehemently) with Katydid, DanH, and other Major Contributors to area voices and come back the next day or later in the day and totally agreed with them on another article and have continued to post with no animousity by any of them or me. And some Hot things were said, trust me
Sometimes I just can’t resist taking the bait with one or two on here who May just like to see their names in print and use the ‘bait and switch’ technique of introducing non-topic material to have their imagined ‘opponent’ scratching their head in bewilderment and so They can appear to ‘be in control’ and ‘winning’…..rofl…..psych 101.
Did I use the word ‘and’ enough? How about ‘or’? lol…..

What are you talking about?
You have got to be one of the most childish people I know.
You are not happy unless you are in a spat with someone…
You always have to have the last word and/or be right.

Are similar operations out of business in cities such as Fargo, Sioux Falls, St. Cloud and Rochester closing?
Like or Dislike: 1 0
Yup, right up to the Fifth (and Final) prescription error over a three year period I stayed with Walgreens for their Hours and the One Stop Shop theory because of all the products they carry. No More…..The last error was a Doozie and I finally switched to an Actual Pharmacy. PS, a lot of pharmacies may not Advertise they will Mail your prescriptions (still less cost than Cab fare for those with no transportation).

Ok, I have had enough.
toperdo8 you are way out of line…I will keep copying/and reporting you to the MODS…
No one should have to deal with your bitterness/hatefulness/rudeness and disrespect.
Please explain what you are talking about..
#1) I don’t have sisters clones…it’s called others that think and/or feel the way I do about things…
#2) I know/remember/understand what I post/write/and say….
What hypocrisy are you talking about?
What inaccuracy are you talking about?
You know you can come on here and change your name(as it’s seen when you post) but you are still the same bitter, mean person that posted under a different name, you also caused trouble/heartache on a different site.
Everyone has a right to post and have there own views, but no one has a right to be mean/nasty and hurtful to others.
No one has been mean/nasty to you so why do you feel that you have to be so basty to others…?
It seems to me that you are a very bitter person…
I would like to suggest to you stop being so bitter/hateful/hurtful, it’s not healthy…and it’s not a fun way to live, always being bitter about life and always stricking out at others.

My Dad was a pharmacist for 50 years and he told me never to leave the pharmacy without checking the prescription first. We are from Maine and visit Duluth every summer. Getting medications together for two people in their 70′s for three weeks is no easy task. Each time I would forget something, we would go to Falks in Woodland and every time, they went above and beyond to help. This year, I ran out of insulin syringes, as odd as that may seem, but, as usual, Falks made up for my mistake and I had what I needed when I walked out of the store. Thank you, Falks, for all you’ve done for us over many years. And hopefully, no one loses a job.

Great comment Bob…….maybe I was missing out by Not going to Falks since they had so many stores. I never had to have my prescriptions delivered, but I can see where that is a Major Service needed by many elderly or those with mental health issues.
I was fortunate the first errors I Did catch, but the last one on a Dosage Change I didn’t catch for a YEAR. What affect that had on my health we will Now Never know. And That was when I went over Everything and found the one that had been saying for Three Years…..take as directed. DOH! As a senior I admit my brain has a few of the ‘lapses’ and ‘senior moments’ but I Was taking that one (from memory) correctly. Sadly, I am partly to blame for not catching the major error earlier since the doctors office goes over ALL prescribed medications during the weight and blood pressure checks and I evidently was ASSuming Walgreens was doing their job and did not pay attention as I should have.

Walgreens all across the USA are notorious for screw-up on Rx’s. They hire left-overs from the bottom of the barrel.
Like or Dislike: 7 14
Buck, I do know Many Others have complained about Walgreens prescription errors, but I don’t know that your statement about ‘left-overs’ is true. I think they DO need to have or Add another Safety Check in their dispensing method as not all of their customers are going to have the ability to do the checking of prescriptions before they leave the premises. I am referring to those with mental health issues or those on drugs that can Cause confusion……
That said, I have to admit the Female (sorry ladies) employee I dealt with did say something so Insanely….hmmm, hate to use this word but it is the only word to describe it…..STUPID to me that it Finalized my decision to Never have another prescription filled at Walgreens.

Misty – Patients should always check their medications, regardless of what pharmacy they are using. The truth is, Walgreen’s is able to afford some of the most advanced saftey systems to prevent medication errors (robotics, computer systems, etc) that independent pharmacies like Falks would not be able to afford. The difference lies in how busy the pharmacies are. Some Walgreen’s in this area can fill over 1000 prescriptions a day, much more than any independent pharmacy can. Also, Walgreen’s makes it a point to put all technicians through a training program, and then even pays for them to take the PTCB exam, which certifies technicians. In talking with previous Falks employees, they didn’t even require certification for their technicians.
As for the argument that Falks is more expensive, that may be true for OTC products, but unless prescription benefit plans prefer a certain pharmacy, medications will be the same where ever you go. Your copay will be the same no matter where you go.
Also, lets not feel sorry for Mr. Preston. He is getting a huge paycheck from Walgreen’s for all of this. Pharmacies get paid hundreds of thousands just for the rights to the prescriptions, so he will be just fine.
Like or Dislike: 16 4
I’m not the one who stated Falk’s was more expensive…..I said that may be…..I have NEVER USED them…..
Walgreens robotics, computer systems etc. must have a bad Chip in them as I am only one person who had FIVE ERRORS in THREE YEARS…..I can only speak of my own experience.
Lastly….I never said I felt Sorry for Mr. Preston, nor did I even Project that thought in Anything ‘I’ said so not sure why you are adressing your comment to Me……
I WAS checking my prescriptions…..that ‘s how I caught the first FOUR errors……and I did accept some of the responsibility for the fifth and final error. Are you reading these comments correctly and noticing who is saying what? I KNOW to check……for those who will be NEW in dealing with Walgreens I was simply warning them in the hopes they will not be so Trusting.
Like or Dislike: 5 9
BTW, in saying More Expensive….WHOEVER SAID IT….they May Not have Insurance. I do and My Co-pay is YES, always the same…..However that person may have been referring to Other Sundries in the store…..you would have to ask THEM what They meant…..

I have had no less then three mess-ups in less then a yr at Walgreens.
They don’t write out the directions they just say “take as directed”, that is just laszyness…and unsafe.
Also they cost more for Rx’s without ins. and they don’t talk to you about anything unless you ask.
If they are too busy to do a good/safe job then they need to be held accountable, one of there misstakes could cost someone there life.
Like or Dislike: 9 8
Northshoreaddict – if the doctor writes on the prescription “use as directed”, then thats what the pharmacy has to go by. They cannot guess how the doctor wants you to take the medication. If you have a problem with those types of directions, you should probably take it up with your doctor, as the pharmacy is just following the law.
Misty – Sorry, I never said you were the one saying it was more expensive, or that you said we should feel sorry for mr preston. I was responding to other posts.
Like or Dislike: 14 1
OK BSquared….. no worries…..it just seemed like it was ALL directed to me because you started with “misty”. You and I have never had any issues so I kind of wondered why I was being given answers to remarks I didn’t make….lol……thanks for answering me! Have a nice evening!
Hmmmm, I didn’t realize about why the ‘take as directed’ order was used. Thanks for clarifying That one BSquared.
I am afraid to ask…..are you a pharmacist at Walgreens? Of course you don’t have to answer that.
That is not how the DR wrote it, I know I can read the Rx that the Dr gave me.
Wlagreens also told me that there was an OTC pain med that I could take even knowing what other med’s I was taking and they were WRONG, I didn’t think it was right so I called the clinic and talked to the Dr and if I had taken it I would have ended up in the hospital if i’d been lucky….
I am guessing you work for Walgreens…is that right?
Actually no, I do not work for Walgreen’s. I can tell you, however the directions are written by the physician is how they are required to be written on the medication, unless they cannot fit on the vial. If they cannot fit, sufficient directions must me given to the patient on paper. Other times, the doctor will discuss with the patient how to take the medication, provide instructions, and then tell the pharmacy to dispense the product with the instructions saying “use as directed”.
Not everyone takes medication the exact same way, and often physicians will have their patients take something a little differently than the norm. That’s why a pharmacist cannot “make up” directions for a prescription that says “Use As Directed”. Even if its something that’s commonly used a certian way. They are not allowed to alter the prescription without authorization from a physician.
Northshoreaddict – do you still have the prescription the doctor gave you? If so, it’s probably not the prescription. The prescription must stay in the pharmacy. The doctor could have given you specific directions on a document such as a discharge sheet, and then just told the pharmacy to dispense the product “As Directed”.
I know its not the best system, but believe me, its not the pharmacists being lazy. If the pharmacy had to call on every prescription written as “use as directed”, they would spend even more time on the phone and even less time counseling patients.

And I guess I am overly distressed about the number of pills to be taken at what times daily being issued Wrong (and you can tell it was TOTALLY wrong also because of the Number of Pills Issued compared to the dosage to be taken) BECAUSE my health issue is a Progressive one and the Proper Dosage over that YEAR could have made a major difference in the progression of the health issue. Did that error literally also cost me a year of life ?

You are way out of line and what you are doing is attacing people… I for one an reporting you.
also my screen name is not addict, it’s northshoreaddict…thank you!
Oh and as for the Rx’s I am taking, it’s not really any of your business but I will not sit by and be attacked by some know-it-all, want-to-be.
I take a daily supplement for bone loss,(I am over 50),I take medications about 4 times a year for upper repertory infection,do to have the beginning of COPD as well as chronic bronchitis, and I use an inhaler four times a day.
I also take a sleep aid three times a week, because I have insomnia and some of the medications that I take for the COPD have a steroid in them and that affects a persons ability to sleep.
I am not over weight,I don’t and never have smoked nor do I drink.
I am also diabetic…controlled by diet/exercise so no insulin.

MY Sincere Aplogies to ALL Area Voices Participants for having to watch MY participation which Allowed Torpedo to Continue to Harass, Stalk, Demean, Instigate, and make this her little playground for her Mean and Spiteful and Soul-less/Incompassionate comments.
While this is indeed a place for Opinions, to completely leave the Topic being discussed to Deliberately cause Hurt. to Humiliate or to simply Instigate responses divulging personal information to defend oneself is just…. Well, torpy…..let me help you out on this latest question since you seem to be so….ahem…..’Concerned’ about my disability .
I wouldn’t matter if I were taking two or one hundred ‘meds’ because my illness is not cureable….it is a progressive illness and my health will continue to deteriorate regardless of what I do or don’t do to stop it.
On the flip side……there are many things you can do to ‘cure’ your rude, obnoxious, mean spirited, bigoted, judgemental life behaviors……. starting with removing the Hugh Chip on your Shoulder and the totally Misguided ‘Tude you adopted at some sad and lonely point in your life. Enjoy your day and drive carefully as I am hearing on the scanner there are many Slippery Slopes in the area…….
Thank you for your advice, Rev. Johnson. Wouldn’t it be boring if everyone was naive, PC, a follower and MN nice? Yes it would. YOU can navigate your way through the land of sunshine and happy thoughts if you want. I prefer not to.
Speaking of disibilities. Michael Savage is correct.

I have nothing but great memories about going to Falk’s in Woodland as a child to get the great offerings from the Bridgeman’s soda fountain! It was a great place to go & I loved it! Now the past is the present & I could not be happier that Falk’s (Preston) is going under. My daughter worked for True Color Studios for years & literally got the shaft when they closed. Mr. Preston did nothing to help. I hope the current employees will not be treated as poorly. I will be encouraging the boarding homes I work for to discontinue getting their co-pays thru Falk’s.
