Too many Americans have a romantic notion of war since it is other lands that play host to these events. Unless we have a loved one involved, war is too much flag waving, parades, and singing God Bless America. September 11, 2001 should have reminded us that war is hell. Instead of being in a nine-year long pity party we could have awakened to the truth that we have been creating “Ground Zeros” for the suffering of others and resolved to stop our destructive behavior.

There are 3 types of people on this planet. 95% of the people are sheep. There are good sheep, bad sheep, accountant sheep, car salesman sheep, black sheep, red sheep, white sheep, religious sheep, atheist sheep, almost an infinite number of different types of sheep. 4% of the people are wolves. Wolves prey upon the sheep. Some wolves are not too bad they just intimidate sheep to get their way. Some wolves are terrible they kill sheep for no good reason. 1% of the people are bandogs. Bandogs intentionally put themselves between the wolves and the sheep. They protect the sheep and if necessary they will fight to the death to protect the sheep. Unfortunately sometimes the sheep get between the wolves and the bandog. This always ends up badly for the sheep. Some sheep have never personally faced a wolf, but they watch TV and they see what the bandogs have to do to protect the sheep. They get frightened because they see sometimes sheep get killed when the bandog meets the wolf. This particular kind of sheep criticizes and trys to stop the bandog from hunting the wolf. We call this sheep the appeaser sheep. The appeaser sheep thinks if the bandog would just leave the wolf alone, the wolf would then leave all the sheep alone . If the wolf happens to kill and terrorize sheep the appeaser sheep doesn’t know or can’t see the appeaser sheep is fine with that as long as the wolf doesn’t come to his home. If the wolf did come near the appeaser sheep’s house he then demands the bandog do something to keep the wolf away from him.

I love the analogy! I read this and was very put out as a service member who has and most likely will have to spend an extended period of time away from my loved ones in order to protect morons like the writer of the article.

’Twas ever thus? Like WWII for instance?

Good luck Kory, I know what you’ll go through…done several deployments, now retired. Some sheep will never understand and you’ll never be able to explain it to them. However, many are very appreciative and will thank you. The ones who marked “dislike” are the sheep who believe if they keep the bandog locked up, the wolves will leave them alone.
