The impressive Republican red wave in Tuesday’s election all but obliterated the few streaks of blue on North Dakota’s political landscape. Continue Reading

What short memories we have. How is electing the same people that got us into this mess in the first place going to help fix it?

exactly why the Democrats lost. They are the core of this wild spending in Washington and have been since 2006 when they got control of the congress.

Many of the republicans that were elected this time were 1st time politicians, and some of them were elected despite the manipulation, opposition, and scheming of the established republican leadership. They are clearly not the same people who are responsible for the mess. The republican party has always campaigned on small government, but usually fails to deliver at the federal level. I hope that this time Americans will hold republicans to the grindstone and DEMAND that republicans make deep cuts to America’s spending problems. Essentially, nothing else anybody does in washington will matter unless spending is reduced tremendously. It’s going to be painful and the entire nation — and its politicians — are going to be acting like spoiled toddlers as their favorite budget items get slashed, but it’s the only way out of this mess.

What mess are you talking about? The article, which I doubt you even read, was about North Dakota’s legislature. Mess? Well lets see. We have the nations lowest unemployment rate, a budget surplus and we cut taxes last year. Would you like to compare how Minnesota’s Democratic controlled legislature fared? I didn’t think so.

“The congressional delegation, which was all Democratic for more than 20 years, now only counts Sen. Kent Conrad as the only Democrat among the three.” The cheese stands alone, the cheese stands alone……….

Supposedly his support for the “wildly unpopular healthcare reform bill” was his downfall. You always hear 70% were against it. How many of those 70% were against it because it didn’t go far enough in providing care for our citizens?

What more was it supposed to do? It FORCED most employers to pay for health insurance for their employees. It FORCED those that did not get health insurance from their employers to buy it themselves. It FORCED the taxpayer to pick up the tab for those who did not fall into the 1st two categories and pay for every else’s newly found ‘free’ healthcare ‘right’. What more could it do?

Public option insurance or universal healthcare would have been two options that took it a step further.

And how much would that have cost us? My God our currency has lost 20% in the last few years and all you libs want to do is spend, spend, spend. Could it be we oppose it because we see so many Canadians in our hospitals tying to get surgeries that Canada’s crappy system wont cover? I’m reminded of Margaret Thatcher….Socialism works great until you run out of other people’s money.

What’s it costing us now? Who pays for the uninsured? We do. The hospitals absorb the cost…charge more for the services to those with insurance…then the insurance company charges more for our premiums. We’re already socialists.

Another chuckle. Many of the conspiracy theorists have said for years that we were going to get a new world order of one over arching government with the legislature, governor and all the political appointees from the same party. Well, North Dakotans appear to be the first state to try to make it a reality. By definition, that is called totalitarianism. I guess is okay, as long as you are on the winning side. I hope the current North Dakota elected officials take the viewpoint of a benign dictatorship and work for all the people of North Dakota, not just those who voted for them.

Totalitarianism is singular, overreaching, power of the government, not a particular political party being in ‘control’. The Republicans have run on a smaller, less intrusive, government – and we should keep them to that promise or vote someone in who will.
My big chuckle is that fisherperson did not see any totalarianism when the Democrates were passing healthcare legislation, buying industies, and passing cap and trade (all things that actually do move a country closer to totalitarianism then the act of electing Republicans) when the Democrats had TOTAL CONTROL OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. Now he is worried. Hillarious!

For me the Republicans are the party of blatant hypocrisy. In light of all the rhetoric about limited government, Republicans have been those most actively fighting the freedom of thought (“if you dare question us, you’re unpatriotic), the freedom to read what one chooses (most would-be book banners come from the conservative side), freedom to make your own life decisions (Terry Schiavo case), and freedom of religion (pushing favored status to one faith over others). I could perhaps have some respect for their positions if they actually followed their own speeches.
And don’t get me started on the hypocrisy of the party of “family values” whose own lifestyles reflect anything but that.

Boy, the editorial of the forum like republicans. What a surprise. They are absolute idiots just like all republicans.

Earl has been a great representative for many years. I will miss having him in office. It’s too bad that the people of North Dakota decided to take their Obama/Pelosi frustrations out on him. Congratulations to Rick Berg. You have some very large shoes to fill.
