“In the meantime, she believes district employees will go to bed disappointed but get up ready to work hard with what they’ve got. ‘You look at the reality of what your resources are,†Berenz said. “You look at your priorities and you make the best decisions for the children.’â€
I’m sorry – but shouldn’t they have been doing this all along??? As a single parent (of an RHS student) who owns a townhome that has decreased 33% in value over the past 4 years, I am beyond angry that my property taxes have decreased by only $300. This levy would have bumped them back up to pre-recession amounts, while I’ve been laid off from 2 different jobs and have suffered pay decrease when I finally found another. STOP THE BLEEDING> I have had to cut every single “extra” out of my life in order to continue making my mortgage payment each month, and I (like many homeowners in this district) are hanging by a thread. I am literally one tax increase away from default and foreclosure… which would only compound the tax-revenue problem, am I right?
Balance the budget with what you’ve got, just like the rest of us have been doing for 4 years. I have a high-school student, and I would rather pay a little extra for the activities she DOES participate in than to have to pay for those she doesn’t. And if comes to a choice between what we can afford and what we can’t, then she’ll have to go without. It’s just not fair to keep bleeding the taxpayers during this time of economic crisis, when we can barely hang onto our upside-down homes the way it is! Drastic times call for drastic measures, it doesn’t take a PhD in economics to figure out you’ve got to tighten the belt even further. Teachers are afraid of losing their jobs now, too? Well guess what? Join the club.
