I seem to recall some years ago the saying “All good cars start with “P”, Plymouth, Pontiac and Puick”.

It’s sad how the liberals don’t want to be reminded that GM’s worst days occurred AFTER obama took them over.

Good info, but there is one variable even more at fault than barack husein. That wouold be the UAW. This group proudly holds the title for being the worst union in the ountry, and that says a lot! They have unskilled labor making 60k to 70k and many well over 100k with some overtime. This is the hundreds of thousands of unskilled labor! They are responsible for the vast majority of the auto crisis.

GM announced in early 2009 that it was discontinuing the Pontiac brand. Conventional wisdom would suggest that it is unlikely that any policies of Obama would influence this decision, having come only months after he took office. Corporate decisions such as these are not made that quickly. It is most likely that this decision was weighed for several years. That would make it more likely that the decision was made midway through the Bush administration or shortly thereafter. The end of the Pontiac brand was predictable given the severe economic downturn the US economy faced as a result of financing two very protracted and expensive wars, the resulting reconstruction, and the unfortunate belief by the Bush administration that Iraqi oil revenues would cover the cost of the wars. The resources dedicated to this effort sapped the strength of the economy more than most people imagined and was not recognized by the Bush administration until it was much to late. Perhaps if more focus were to be placed on domestic issues, the economy would have rebounded much quicker.

I either read or heard that the Chinese Elite love the Buick. That would partially explain the Pontiac.
Most probably the biggest cause of the downfall of Pontiac was not either party or its presidents. It wis greed that permeates the American Society from A to Z and if that isn’t brought under control this country will go the way of the Pontiac.

I’ll miss Pontiac since I thought it was the only member of GMs line up that was really that appealing. Buicks are for old people, Cadillacs are unaffordable and Chevys are what you got when you had to drive a rental. I stil see Grand ams everywhere which makes me wonder how they could have gone under with such a high sales volume. Pontiac in the 80′s and 90′s weren’t built very good and you were lucky to get 120K out of them. I still dream of owning that 69′ GTO I had a chance at when I was younger, should have snatched that one up when I had the chance.
