Candidates detail priorities, experience and issues
WORTHINGTON The races for city office are not too crowded this year, with two candidates each vying for Ward 2 Alderman and mayor, and incumbent alderman Ron Wood running unopposed for re-election. Continue Reading

Carol Culver does bring up one point that the City Council should listen up too. The communication between the Council and the citizens needs to improve. Downloadable podcasts might be an option. A website set up on Facebook or Twitter would be a great way to allow citizens to send feedback.

Thanks Nicole. If elected, I would gladly set up a site on Facebook. I would also see that the City’s new website offers a place to applaud, agree, or disagree with the events affecting our community.

What do you view as the most important issue facing the city of Worthington and how would you address it? Any one else care to take a stab at that question? None of these people knew the answer or if they did they’re not telling!

Carol, I read your letter http://www.dglobe.com/event/article/id/42575/ in which The Globe did not include a link for discussion so I thought I would post my thoughts here.
I really wish you would of boldly stated your ideas for the City before the election. You have some good ideas, and some I can’t say I agree with at this time, but I knew of non of them before the election. I searched the web high and low before I knew about the forum “debate” and found no information concerning the election from either you or Oberloh. Not even a letter from you in the paper before today. Voters are not mind readers and some of us like to make informed voting decisions.
The main purpose for going to the forum was to hear what you had to say because, like you, I wasn’t so sure that I like the current state of affairs concerning our local government.
I went with an open mind and was eager to hear what you had to say.
When it was your turn to speak, one thing that jumped out to me was a ridiculous comment you made about how nobody counts change back to you. What? What does that have to do with being elected mayor? What are you going to do? Mandate that every child in the district counts change back for a diploma? My children are in District #518 and I know they know how to subtract without the use of a calculator. Addition, division and multiplication too.
Count your own change. I do. Point is, you spent a lot of time elaborating on change counting when you could of used your time more effectively talking about your ideas on issues about the City.
There was also something kind of demeaning in the way you worded “little jobs” in the possible hotel attached to some event center. I don’t think you meant for it to be demeaning, but it was.
Now maybe me and others should of had more courage to speak up and ask some more questions at the forum, but I think it’s a candidates responsibility to get their info out there. Your one and only public moment was during that forum at the collage, unless there was something else you put out to the public in which I was not aware of.
Another thing is, Carol, even if you did state more effectively and publicly on how you feel on issues, this county is just too dang conservative to vote in someone who might actually do something radical and progressive. This town is unique and it could really be a plus to draw in business and visitors, but the City Council doesn’t reflect the diversity of it’s people and it’s all pretty much one sided, traditional, status quo, conservative. Take a look at the local election results. Conservative all the way.
I hope that you run again. Maybe try for City Council. It would be nice to have someone in there to shake things up a little.
P.S. I don’t play golf either.
