Fully nude strip club shut down by Fargo inspectors for building code deficiencies
October 21, 2010 at 11:45 am in INFORUM
A few days after a new fully nude strip club opened on the outskirts of Fargo, city inspectors have closed the building until it can be brought up to code. Continue Reading

And is anybody surprised?? Only took them 4 days to find something to close them down with. Unbelieveable !! But then these are the same people who are going to issue speeding tickets from 8 – 5 to stop traffic deaths from 7 – 3. Did you see it coming??

All new busisness are checked out for safety before the open or get a licence. I they did not know that the club was even open sounds fishy to me.
Hot debate. What do you think?

I find that extremely ‘convenient’ as well. In order to do business in this city you have to have your licenses in order. So basically what the city has told me is that they have a bunch of fail processes in place along with even more fail of employees. We keep feeding them more and more of our tax dollars.
I simply cannot believe that part of starting a new business in this town isn’t followed by a required inspection of the premises to see if it is suitable for a large occupancy use.

Hurry and get up to code, Bing! The first 2 weeks of a new business are like free money in this town.

You have to be related to one of the honchos down at city hall to get a cushy job like that.
It’s like the slackers who do sump pump “inspections” in Fargo.
Hot debate. What do you think?

Wouldn’t you make SURE there were no code violations before opening, especially if you knew they’d be looking at you more closely than others? Sorry, no sympathy for that. A business owner has responsibilities, too.

Seems to me the city or county would have inspected the building before issuing the permit. Unless, of course, no one read what kind of business was applying?
Somehow, I get the feeling that if this was a bar or supperclub, there never would have been an inspection.

Odd, I didn’t see anything in the article about unisex bathrooms. How’d you know that one?
And why would I be ‘mad’ about losing the option to make a 200 mile round trip to see for myself?

oh maybe the “1″ bathroom is for men only. Where do the women go? Or is the “1″ bathroom for women? where do the men go.

Nope, went back and reread the article, and still no sign of anything about ’1′ bathroom. Closest it comes is saying, “may need more plumbing”.

Yep, you’re right, there was nothing in the article about one bathroom. My apologies, I may have learned that through a new interview, anyways…the facility seemed more appropriate for his roofing biz than a strip club.

Exotic dancers are not nearly as pretty with burn scars. I think a sprinkler system may be a good idea.

Don’t you have to have the business/building inspected BEFORE you can start operating it as a business? Legally speaking I mean….

Any new bar, rstaurant or similar facility of 100 or more occupants is required to have an automaic sprinkler system – pretty much a direct response to the Station Nightclub fire in Rhode Island back in 2003. Nothing nefarious here – other than how they managed to open BEFORE getting feedback from the code officials.

Be careful — didn’t they tell you that your face might freeze like that? I heard it often enough I figure if I pass it on once in a while it will subtract from all the other “Mom” phrases my head is full of.

we will see just how much the city of fargo makes them do….
when you build ANYTHING in a city you need a building permit. they obviously didnt get one. if the city wants to make it hard (and i think they should….no, not because of boobies, but because EVERY business should be held to the same building code standards), all they have to do is say, pull out everything you built and start over. im guessing the place is a total dump and they didnt do anything but build a crappy bar and an unstable stage.
if they have to get fire sprinklers….the budget is going to skyrocket on this thing. these people should have just done this in horace, harwood or some small town.

Hey, I’m a manager at a grocery store and I make more than $12.00 an hour and it didn’t cost me 60,000.00 in school loans to do it.

Sprinklers make for a very expensive building? Going a little overboard on the comments there… sprinklers are pretty much standard in construction. They are there for a reason (just ask the Galleria residents – their building was built 1-2 yrs before they became a requirement). Just from the picture in the paper, it’s obvious this building has several deficiencies.
It’s nice to see folks spin this as an attempt to shut down the business… heaven forbid the city/government cares about your safety…

My only problem with the city government ensure the property was safe.. Why wasn’t it done before the licenses where issued? I mean seriously. Did NO ONE read that it was for a business that was on the same par as a bar and have many patrons? It shouldn’t even have been issued until the inspections were completed.

There was NOT one issued! I know someone that lives out there and they looked into it when there was first talk about this place opening. This building is a POS building! I’m sure the owner wanted to make a quick buck. “Rent a crappy building, put a sign on it, then open. Oh I’ll just bypass the city because I know it would never pass. I’ll just wait till I get caught.”

What a dump. Lets see, take a warehouse and turn it into a “gentlemens club” without any improvments. What was this guy thinking??? Does the place even have heat or electricity??

I guess I’m not in the “up and up” when it comes to the issuance of permits and building inspections for businesses. But, when you build a new home (or, add on a garage to an existing home, for instance) you have to obtain a building permit before work can begin. Once you have your permit in hand, you can build your new house, or add on your garage. Once the work is completed, the inspector comes out and gives you the a-o.k. from there. If problems arise with, say, new electrical wiring, it’s tagged, and you have to fix it. Once fixed, the inspector comes back out for a second look. Is this not how it works for businesses?? Maybe the guy got his permit, “remodeled” (I use that term loosely) the place, and opened it up before the inspector(s) was/were there to check everything over.
Maybe I’m way off base there, but that’s how it worked when we remodeled our home (adding lots of new wiring/electrical outlets) and built our garage.

I’m thinking the sprinklers are going to be expensive, since the building doesn’t have city or rural water, just a small storage tank.

Heck, my wife’s outta town and I got cash burning a hole in my pocket. Nothing like cigarette breath, a tooth or two missing, trashy tattoos, a FUPA, and c-section scars to get a guy aroused. I hope they get their building up to code…

The wealthy and people with Political clout of Fargo have spoken and picked on the Police Chief and also notified the press, good job. Basically that is all it takes to shut down a business. I don’t blame the club owner for starting in the outskirts of town, the rules are too many in city and the police are like Crockadiles waiting for the patron’s to exit the club. I feel the large club owners did not want this club to happen and they have allot of money at stake and this club would have been a bigger hit than Cougars in the club and overzealous underpaid fancy security guards that date the Cougars, can anyone guess what club I am talking about.

Or it could simply be that they didn’t have their building up to code. Maybe a cabal of Tea Partiers and their “hypocritical” agenda had nothing to do with it.

This is exactly right. The building, as built, is not ready for prime time. It’s ok for a small office staff and warehouse space, but to get it ready for a business with lots of employees and customers? Not so much.

I don’t know about out there but in MN you have to pull permits for the remodel and they would have known all the things needed to bring the place up to code, then it would have to be inspected before the first C-section scar was shown..
Its gonna really suck when the ADA people get a hold of it then they have to go handicapped accessible and spend a ton of money that a strip bar won’t be able to compete with.
Great concept bad idea…
